I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We chose Blaire House of Worcester because they were the only full-care nursing facility in the area that had a bed immediately, and it wasn't a year- to two-year wait. My dad is in a triple-room. In going there, his roommates are great. I think if it was me, I would feel more comfortable being in a room with somebody else where there's noise and interaction and things going on than just kind of cooped up in my own private little room. I'm much more comfortable with it now. The staff seems very good. They're very well trained. They seem to take a real caring interest in their patients. I have not tried their food. My daughter goes more than I do because she lives 15 to 20 minutes away. She goes there about three times a week and helps my dad with his meals. She said everything looked appetizing. Of course, he is on a very restricted soft food diet now, because he's having issues with swallowing. I know they have physical therapy and occupational therapy come in and work with Dad. I know they have a common area where they do arts and crafts, they do stories, and they do different things, but I'm not really well versed in all the events that they do. It is a locked down Alzheimer's dementia unit. My dad's very quiet now. He doesn't talk much. He just kind of sits there in his chair or in his bed. Most of them seem very nice. Most of them are not violent or anything like that at all. It is what it is. It's a facility where people are just lost in their own minds. It's a good place for my dad. They seem to have a much larger staff than any of the other places I looked at. There seems to be people flying around all over the place, whether it's guys emptying trash or people putting stuff in a linen closet. There are nurses 24/7. They have nurse practitioners that come in almost every day. They have haircuts once a week. They have a kitchen staff, people that are just janitors and people that are there to run the different programs in the common area. It looks like they've got 18 to 20 people up all the time. They're well-staffed.

I visited this facility

Blaire House is the first place that had a bed. It was a very nice place, and I liked it. They had doctors on-site. It’s a complete community for people with Alzheimer’s.

I visited this facility

Blaire House of Worcester is designed for very critical patients. I found the place to be very clean and the staff to be very pleasant. However, they didn't have enough supervising staff for the patients. They did have an outside patio, which was like an enclosed open area, and that was nice for people to go out to. I did get to see the rooms. They were spacious with three beds in there so everybody has their own space. I just didn't like the fact that the bathroom was outside of the room. It was a common bathroom in the hallway and I didn't care for that. Also the dining room appeared to be crowded.
