I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband was at Penacook Place, Inc. It was wonderful. It put my mind at ease knowing that he was being cared for in an excellent way. They did activities every day with the patients. It was outstanding in my family's opinion. The interaction with the staff was excellent. The receptionists, the administrator, the nurses, the aides, and even the dietitian were all amazing. My husband was in a shared room. It had two beds separated by a curtain, like in a hospital. Across the hall from his room was the patient lounge, and then down the hall was a big room that was an activity room. They could also have meals there. Downstairs, there was a big room for a dining area. Plus, they had a common area and a church area, too. They loved my husband. I got a call from the administrator after his passing, and she was so sweet. She said they all missed him, and they loved him being there. He had moments when he would give them a hard time because he didn't want them to change or wash him up. However, they made sure that somebody was there that could relate to him. They went above and beyond. They gave him meals, and the food was excellent. I was so pleased for him to have the good fortune of being there. They played bingo, and my husband won with the help of an aide. I was also there one Sunday in the activity room, and there was a church service. They had a singalong downstairs in the big room. They had a band, and nice, soothing music was playing. It was amazing.

Other

I find the nurses and aids, patient, caring and simply delightful, I am very surprised at this because they are without a doubt UNDERSTAFFED! There are by far to many patients per aids. The windows are dirty, it is either freezing in the hall or very hot in the rooms. The rooms are to small to have a visitor, and there are NO chairs for visitors. Meal portions are tini, poor selection and usually food is cold. Disappointed to see majority of patients there are comatose not interactive with one another at all. Doctors are never present, and forget to leave orders, and staff hesitates to call a doctor.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mom stayed at Penacook Place, a great place. The staff was great. The food was not that great but also not terrible. Since they changed to a new director, their services went downhill. They cut down their staff members and a lot of people that my mother had known and took care of her for two years. They also kept raising their rates.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother is a patient at Penacook Place in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Penacook is an independent, not-for-profit, 160-bed nursing home and rehabilitation facility that strives to offer the finest care and best quality of life for its residents. My mother's dementia has progressed to a point where she is very out of touch with reality, unable to carry on a conversation, not aware of who her children are most of the time. She is unable to walk, eat by herself, or get from her bed to the wheelchair without a hoist. It is very difficult to see your parent in this state. Penacook places brings comfort to my Mom as well as we, her children. The nurses and aides are always there for Mom, providing the usual care plus more, a loving touch. Penacook provides daily activities, and brings in musicians for extra entertainment. Though my Mom is unable to partake in much of this, I believe she enjoys being in such an atmosphere. I live 3,000 miles away from my Mom, which is very difficult, but knowing that she is being cared for by the Penacook staff brings some relief to my worrying about her. My brother and sister live near Penacook and visit her daily. I have had Lyme disease for many years and am not well enough to relocate back east. I spend every day with my Mom when I visit her, during which time I have developed relationships with the wonderful caregivers at Penacook.
