I cannot say enough about how my mother was treated while in the dementia unit at Overlook. The staff was beyond exceptional. From the moment you walk into the doors you are greeted by a receptionist who will direct you to where you need to go. The entire staff is friendly and caring to the visitors but treats the patients as if they were their own relatives. This place does not have that horrible smell that you find in many other nursing homes, and is kept very clean. I loved the fact my mom had her own room. Highly recommended.

The Overlook was great. It had a swimming pool and a jacuzzi, which my mom loved, but it was too expensive for my mom. The facility was very nice. It had a movie theater, an art theater, all kinds of crafts, three restaurants, a brewery, and a sunroom, which my mom really liked. They give you rides to places that you want to go or need to go. They had, like, a general store in there. It was like a mini city. The staff was very, very nice. The food was very good. The only downfall was the amount of money you had to give.

In the last 2 months I had 2 separate stays at The Overlook's sub-acute / rehab unit for a total of 5 weeks. I want to reach out and thank the entire staff for exceptional & extraordinary care. It's not an exaggeration that every staff member from each department with whom I had contact was so pleasant and very helpful, and I wish there were a way to thank each one individually & by name. As a former RN it gave me such a secure feeling to be cared for by such skilled and attentive nursing unit staff members who went over and above for their patients' comfort, nursing care, and safety. PT and OT were outstanding. Bri (physical therapy) and Starr (occupational therapy) were the two staff members who worked with me most often during the 5 weeks, and were knowledgeable, patient & especially encouraging during my times of being hesitant or nervous while working through the steps to my physical recovery, providing me with the safest ways to progress and giving me the confidence I needed. Each room is a large private room and very comfortable. Ilsa came in once or twice / day for housekeeping and was always friendly and stopped to greet me. Again I wish I could thank everyone in every department with whom I'd come in contact because each one was so nice, supportive, and often sharing their sense of humor to brighten the day even more ~ I couldn't ask for more during a recovery. I can't neglect to mention the dietary department for the outstanding meals. Thank you to all.

The Overlook is a little bit of everything. They go from assisted right up to the end. My mother had a lot of friends that have gone there and I went there for a tour. The common spaces were very modern and up-to-date. There were lots of people being entertained. The apartments were very big and very roomy. I liked it there, but it's a giant place. The staff was very good and very accommodating. The facility was well-kept.

My mother needed more help than I could give her at home, so called Overlook as they are very close. 2 phone messages to Catherine over 3 days were not returned. Finally got Marie, who treated us like we were a bother and was less than friendly. We are private pay with plenty of assets so you think they would be interested. Is this how they treat patients, with avoidance and haughtiness? This left a very bad taste, so found a alternative facility that was warm and inviting and cancelled our appointment with Overlook, much to their relief, I am sure. Can't be bothering the admin staff, oh no

I need to update/delete my last review of this place. My mother was accepted into the Dementia unit since my last review, and God had answered my prayers! She couldn't of been in a better place when she past. I cant rave enough to everyone on how terrific this place treated not only my mother, but all the residents living in the dementia unit. Not once did I see any staff treat the patients like they were nothing but a paycheck. They constantly sat and talk to the patients as if they were their own parents. What a true blessing it was to have her placed there, even if it was a short time. AAAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++

The Overlook had pretty good amenities, but I didn’t like the way some of the apartments were set up. They were inside the building with no access to sunlight because there were no windows. If you own your own vehicle, you have to clean up your own vehicle because there is no outside maintenance and you have to pay extra to have it done. They also had a buy-in program, which was very expensive. I had the impression that they only care about the sale and not the person who will be living there. They had Bingo for their activities and they had a woodworking shop. To me, the place looked more like a nursing home.

My parents moved into The Overlook; it's probably the best there is. The rooms are huge and cleaned at least two times a day. The dining room is restaurant-like, and they have everything from shows and people coming in to entertain. The care is excellent, and I couldn't find a better place.

I liked the swimming pool and the gym at The Overlook, and they did some bus trips. The rooms were all private, they have a kitchen, and they have a doctor on site. The individual that we interviewed with was a lovely person; she was very nice, and very honest. I noticed that the kitchenette was missing in the room, they strongly encouraged the residents to get out of their room, and my father was not socially advanced. I think it was a good idea to have a facility where he could stay in his room if he chose.

The Overlook wasn’t that welcoming. There was nothing outstanding about it. The staff was not very personable. She seemed like she was in a rush even though we had an appointment. I was so unimpressed with it. I don’t recall any amenities. They just weren’t nice. The room they took me to smelled weird, but they had just cleaned it, so that’s probably why. The Overlook did not have a welcoming feel about it. They need more personable skills.

The Overlook Community has a wonderful facility. It was clean and the rooms were large enough for one. One draw back is there was no kitchenette in the room. The pool was a big hit with my 92 year old father.

The only facility of those that were presented to me by Caring.com that was appropriate for my needs was The Overlook Life Community in Charlton, MA. I’m very independent and do not need the intensive support that is offered by the other places recommended to me by Caring.com. I am looking for a care retirement community where I can live independently in an apartment and if ever needed then assisted living or skilled nursing would be available to me. Overlook is a wonderful place and I highly recommend it for consideration. The community is located a little further from my family than I would like. However, I am keeping it on my list because it is a very nice retirement community. I did go back for a second visit. The apartments are very nice, comfortable and updated - and it has a few separate cottages. The amenities, services and the food options are wonderful. Overlook has a full array of social activities, clubs, a crafting study (plus other facilities), an excellent fitness center with a trainer and a pool. I only wish it was a little closer to family. I am continuing to consider it as an option for my retirement.

Fieldstone at The Overlook is a brand new facility, and it was built specifically for its purpose; assisted-living, and memory care. It wasn’t retrofitted. The staff is very conscientious, and friendly. There is somebody there all the time with my mother; which is what you needed. There’s enough staff for the number of people they have. They only have between twelve, and fourteen people. The staff isn’t spread in. She has been there almost two months. She had a large room; I’d say it’s probably sixteen-by-sixteen feet. She is able to have a couple of chairs, a television stand, and she’s got a double bed. The dining setup is a large kitchen area with tables of four, and the food is good. They have regular beverage, and snack times. They have a person that plays the guitar, and sing that comes in once a week. They have an artist that comes in once a week, a massage therapist once a week, and does chair massage type thing. They played bingo, chair exercises, there’s always puzzles available, and coloring books. They have music practically every day. They listen to music of their era practically the entire day in the public area. They have a very nicely setup living room. I can’t say that I observed anything that they need to improve on. I have had a very good experience.

The Overlook wasn’t as new as the other facility I visited, but it did have the advantage of being able to go from assisted living to nursing care. It is all in one facility, so that’s good. The rooms were of a good size and could be set up however you wanted to set them up, which I thought was a good thing. They have patios, which was also good. The staff was very nice. They have lots of things that you can do, like visiting the library and playing games.

The staff is extremely helpful at The Overlook. The rooms are all private rooms, which was a big bonus. The biggest thing -- although they are expensive -- is that they do take Medicaid after the money is gone, so that is nice. I would absolutely recommend this place to anybody. They have a dining room, and I have eaten there. It's like going to a restaurant. They have a waiter that takes your order, and they bring the food to you at the table. The menu is extensive. There must be 15 items on the menu everyday plus specials. It's like being in a resort.

The Overlook actually has the selection that I need, based on the fact that it's a multiple community of services within the facility. It is not just assisted living. If a person needed to have more assisted living as she declines with her dementia, which is really pretty much at the bottom almost, she can. She is self-sufficient as far as showering and personal care, but that’s not going to stay that way; it’s going to become maybe less and less. The reason why I chose this facility is that it involves various levels of care, and I think anybody who is shopping for something like that under those conditions, it’s absolutely necessary. If you’re assisted living, change, as far as the patient is concerned, you have to relocate that patient, and there’s a lot of stuff to get into another facility. The facility is beautiful, and I took a tour with the concierge, who is the individual who actually explains what’s available by level of care and how you can transition from one area to another. For the level you’re going into there’s a different price. There are bungalows and condos, and the place is really gigantic. I don’t know how they're gonna find people, as people with dementia walked out the door, but they have adequate staff

This is a life care community, most of which was built 6 yrs ago. It sits on 450 acres of land. It has a 4ft heated pool along with a large physical fitness program. There are many things to occupy one. The apartments are various sies with full kitchens in the independent living units. There is a Bank and store on site, as well as a barber and beauty shop.
