I moved into The Charter House. I'm in an efficiency, and it's comfortable and more room than what I thought. The staff is pretty pleasant. I just moved in and maintenance came in and fixed what was needed to be fixed. The management was pretty nice in the process of moving in. I have central air. In the building itself, they have a gym, an exercise room, and a library. We have a TV room and a computer room. They offer different social programs, but with the pandemic, it's been quiet. They have a laundry room, too. Things are still closed, and we're waiting for the management to say if that will open. I provide my food, but if a person is in need of food they will provide it. I have the smallest apartment, and there's only two in the building. The rest of it is very roomy from what I've seen. I have a little kitchenette, but it doesn't have any drawer space; that's the only problem I have. I don't have a dishwasher, but that's OK.

I like that Charter House Senior Living is close to the Metro. It's in downtown Silver Spring, so you have everything there and you don't need transportation. It's spacious. It's very clean. They're very friendly.

My mom and I live in Charter House for one month now. We choose it because of its location and amenities. This is very accessible. My daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren live less than half a mile from here. We are in a two bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, which is completely adequate. The staff is very nice. They have a pay-per-use dining room that provides hot meals. They have a library, an in-house beauty salon, fitness center, computer room, game room and roof top solarium. They also have covered parking garaged attached to the building, but you have to pay for the parking. We lived in an independent living in a retirement village in Florida and this is a big change from country living to city living. But I am happy with the choice.

My father was at Charter House. He was there maybe three years before he died. They serve meals and they allowed guests to come. I was able to bring my daughter there several times. The staff were very nice to her. The place is clean, bright, and the food was great. The only problem is that they didn't have enough stability for my father and he ended up walking out of his unit one day and breaking his hip and that precipitated his death.

I chose Charter House because basically, they're the only ones who didn't require income minimum. I'm about to move there, but I'm still under lease. It's a regular 55 and over apartment house. The staff seems helpful. For people who are on fixed or low income, I would recommend it because they don't have an income minimum.

I am a resident of Charter House. It is an old building and full of roaches. It is a nice place to be if it is well maintained, but it is not well maintained. The staff is okay, but I guess probably they don't have enough people to work. Like this weekend, the guy who does the garbage just pulls out and everything was on the kitchen and the whole corridor. I can't open my door because it was smelling like a dumpster. They need to hire more staff and they need to keep it well maintained. They room is not really spacious. Before there's only one bedroom which is very large and now they have decided to divide that one bedroom into two bedroom. So, now you'll have one master bedroom with a small bathroom in the corridor and then you have a small bedroom that you can't even share with anybody. It's like a den. I only participate in yoga and the exercise program because they don't have much activities here. They have talks where people come in and talk about elder care and whatever.
