Locust Lodge 1 was wonderful. The staff was really caring and attentive. I have no complaints whatsoever. My mother-in-law was getting help with walking and being fed at the time because she had broken her arm. The facility was very nice. They cooked fresh food every day. The facility was very clean and it felt more like a home. There was no smell of urine or stink.

Locust Lodge Assisted Living is a big house. I didn't think that it would be a good fit for him because, on one side, you had to go down the steps to get into the room. Then you had to go up steps to get into the bathroom, and my father couldn't do that. The staff took me to the small section attached to the house on the other side. There was one room there, but it needed a lot of aesthetics. It was just being used as storage right now. The staff was attentive. She answered all my questions. She asked me a lot about what level of care my dad was at. For the number of people that live there, she only had two people and herself, and I didn't think that that was too many. I thought that they should maybe have two additional people to handle all the people there. From the outside, it looked great, but once you got on the inside, I wasn't really happy with it. I just didn't feel safe for my dad there because if he decided to walk outside and sit down on that porch, he could get out of the compound. There were no locks or anything on it because they have some people that can come and go. So this is just not going to work for him because he's got full-blown Alzheimer's, and I could just see him wandering off and they not catching it. I just didn't feel it was a good fit for him.

My mom will be moving into Locust Lodge II. I like the price because she's having an OK income, but it just doesn't qualify for that high end stuff. Everything seems to be starting at $6,000 a month, but with them, the room I was looking at is starting at $3,400 a month, so that's great. Not only can she afford it, but she can actually save a little bit, which she is going to need down the other end as she gets older. The other most convenient thing was it was ten minutes up the street. It is an inexpensive place. She has a room now and it's on the ground floor. She doesnt have to negotiate stairs and she's got a private bathroom. The staff was very outgoing and accommodating. I really appreciate her efforts, because I was supposed to get my mom up there sooner. So, I had to tell the lady at Locust Lodge, and I had already given her a $500 deposit check. I figured that's gone, I called her and said, "Sorry, it's fallen through. Everything's on hold. Mom doesn't want to come up yet." She called me back and said, "Look, we still got your check when it's time for your mom to come up here. We'll use that just to hold the room for you, and then you just pay for the remainder of whatever's left on that month." That was fantastic, and she said, "If we can't get you in Locust Lodge, I got a place and I probably have room in Catonsville or something up in Pikesville." So, I'm like, "Oh, please, not Pikesville." But she said, "Nope, we're good. We can put you in this lodge." I have not tried the food, but she did show me the menu. The problem is, my mom's gluten intolerant, so it's kind of going to be on me to make sure that she gets her bread and rolls, because that's a little over and above what they would do. The facility is not going to be top of the line because they're relatively inexpensive, and I understand that it's not the Ritz Carlton.

We found Locust Lodge 1 for my mother and step father. It’s very neat and clean, and it has a very pleasant atmosphere. The staff was friendly and courteous. I know they have crafts and people coming in to sing and other fun things.

What a beautiful place! The Locust Lodge is located deep in the Rivera Beach area of Pasadena, md on a lovely back road that is very close to the water. I love the feel of this facility, its outside area is large, well kept and well decorated. My favorite feature of the Locust Lodge would without a doubt be that some of the rooms have sliding glass doors going out to the yard. What a refreshing change to the very restricting feeling of some assisted living facilities. I loved visiting my relative at this lovely facility, in a lovely place
