My mother moved into Odyssey Assisted Living at Montevue. It was fantastic, but she was there for only two weeks before she fell. She has a beautiful room and a big bathroom. Its all accessible for the elderly, and she has a refrigerator and a kitchenette with a microwave. She has a big window that looks onto a patio on the first floor and three different living rooms that she can go to. She has a beautiful courtyard patio, a beautiful dining room with real linen, and she has a shadow box that they can put their own identity on. The food is not that good, but they offer 24-hour food all the time, and if you did not like the dinner, you can get your favorite chicken salad or hamburger, and that's a plus. They had an Elvis Presley impersonator and an outdoor picnic.

Montevue is the one that my mother is going to go. What we particularly like is the fact that the rooms are large and that each person gets an independent room. Amenities seem fine, but that's not a deciding point. They have activities, but a big activities calendar would not have mattered to her. The fact that the rooms are big and that they are very quiet, those are the deciding factors. Also, the staff members are very pleasant. This place seems to meet all needs. Their dining room is very adequate. Also, the staff seems very friendly.

Odyssey was friendly and inviting. The manager was very informative, asked about what my mom needed, and told us what they had to offer. She basically laid out the plan and cost, and otherwise made it beneficial and easy for my mom. The space in the avilable apartments was small, but based on what my mom needs right now, it should be OK. I do like that there is no sharing of rooms. It is a very well-appointed, clean facility in a nice location. I am leaning toward this facility simply because it has the skilled nursing facility associated with it, and I think it's imperative and important to have easy access to both.

My mom goes in for rehab at Odyssey Assisted Living at Monteveu. They have bingo, music, a lot of entertainment, and shopping. It's a very active community. The rooms were very adequate and very nice; plus, they let you decorate and do whatever you want to the rooms.

We were looking around at that time to see what facilities are good to my mom that is conducive to her situation. I did visit Citizens, and that one was my favorite. It was brand new; however, there was no availability, I mean their waiting list was just absurd. Citizens was really good. It was more of a homier atmosphere, not like hospital as most nursing homes are where you go in and you know you're a nursing home/hospital facility. It just gives more of a homier feel. As a matter of fact, their rooms actually looked like a boarding room. That's what I wanted for my mom. I would indeed recommend this place if they can get their loved ones in there.

It's a government facility so they take people who have Medicaid. What's timely about my friend's stay is that they will be moving to their brand new facility in 2 weeks. Also I like the fact that they take care of the patients and the facility does not have a smell when you walk along the hallway. I find the people there very nice to deal with. I think with the staff there, some are good and some are still learning. The head staff takes care of everything when there's a difficulty. My friend is not that wild about the food but I think it's been recently good. Apart from medical attention, he is also helped by being moved from his bed to his chair and back twice a day. I think that with Citizen's Care, if you pay more, you could probably get a lot more service but for what he can afford I think they've done a good job.

The staff at Citizens was pretty friendly, but I rarely had the need or occasion to find them. For the most part, the nursing home was quite clean but had a distinct smell to it. My grandmother was given decent meals that conformed to her nutrition requirements, but I wouldn't call them delicious. I've seen better food at the facility that my mother works at in PA. Citizens had activities which she enjoyed doing when she could, but she had limited mobility. A lot of residents are just placed in chairs outside of their rooms. For some, they seem to enjoy the traffic, while others seem unhappy. It would be nice if the staff could take them for walks or something to see the lovely nature outside. Overall, my grandmother was properly cared for. Citizens is a pretty average nursing home, and you could do a lot worse for your family member if you choose to send him or her here.
