My aunt is at Winter Growth. It's beautiful. It's pretty much memory care units and also an assisted living unit. So it's two in one. They're separate in terms of workers and in terms of how they operate. They're all single rooms. No shared rooms. The staff is pretty much good. The food is good. They have physical, occupational, and respiratory therapy, all of that, at least five days per week onsite. They have activities on site. It's a wonderful place. The staff is great. They're awesome. They're wonderful staff. They have three prepared meals per day. They have a chef onsite seven days per week. The structure of the building is wonderful. It has more than enough room for all the clients to roam on the memory side. It has a courtyard that you can go outside, go into the garden, and pick whatever they want to pick and come back inside. You don't have to supervise them because it is a courtyard, which means that you can't leave the premises. They're just in between two buildings. They provided a garden there and they can go to the garden whenever they like. The doors are always open for them to go out, there are benches out, they can just sit there and relax and come back when they're ready. It has a lot of social areas where they can sit with each other or they can go by themselves. So it's great.

About Winter Growth in Columbia, Maryland
Welcome to Winter Growth Helping Older and Disabled Adults to Celebrate Live Winter Growth is a non-profit organization founded in 1979 in Brookeville, MD. Our mission is to provide community based services for older and disabled adults that support them in achieving their highest potential for independence, dignity, and life satisfaction. We are licensed by the State of Maryland to provide Adult Medical Day Care and Assisted Living. Our vehicles for the Assisted Transportation Program are certified twice a year for safety by the State. At Winter Growth, we recognize that each individual has a different set of needs. We know that there are times when a nursing home is the best care solution. When an individual truly needs 24-hour care by registered nurses and on site physicians, the nursing home is often the best venue to receive this care. However, unwanted nursing home placement is sometimes chosen for lack of services that could support people in their home or in a small assisted living home. The flexible menus of care services we have developed are designed to work individually or in combination to help older adults avoid unnecessary institutionalization. Often a nursing home could be avoided but for the availability of a service that can reasonably be provided in the community. At Winter Growth, we are committed to filling those gaps. Our services are also designed to support families in their desire to continue to care for their family members in their homes or sometimes in one of our small family-style assisted living programs. Each of our services has the goal of promoting integrity, self-esteem, and life satisfaction for both older and/or disabled adults and their family members. Services Include: Adult Medical Day Programs, including: Activities and Care for Cognitive Alert Participants Activities and Care for Participants with Dementia Targeted Fitness Groups Nursing and Personal Care Social Services Meals and Snacks Transportation Winter Growth’s target populations include older adults: Who are isolated, lacking social contact, mental stimulation, exercise, and proper nutrition. Who lack appropriate transportation to access medical care. Who suffer from age-related depression or long-term mental health issues. Who live with one or more chronic illness(es) that limits their ability to perform primary or secondary activities of daily living. Who require a secure environment with experienced staff and structured activities during the day and/or evening hours. Who require nursing oversight (less than 24 hours a day) for a chronic illness or disability. Funding and Fees Winter Growth is a 501(c)(3) fee for service organization. We set fees designed to cover our cost of providing quality services, and then work to identify all available sources to help individuals of moderate and low income to pay those fees. Our largest funding source is Private Pay. However, we also accept: Medicaid State and Local Government Grant Subsidies Private Foundations and Community Donated Subsidies Senior Care Foster Care Subsidies Long Term Care and Workers Compensation Insurance Veterans Administration Subsidies Contact Us We would be happy to hear from you. My mother was a daycare member before COVID, and suffers from dementia. During the COVID isolation, she went downhill fast, due to isolation, and it was necessary to place her in an assisted living facility. She was very happy with the day program, so I figured the assisted living would be a good fit, and it has been. Her dementia progress has definitely slowed due to the activities they provide, she's put on the weight she'd lost during her isolation, and after an expected adjustment period, has been very happy there. Her room is smaller than at some of the facilities I've seen, but there is still plenty of space for her things (I believe more might be confusing to her), and there is a great deal of open area for socialization. The staff are attentive to her individual needs, and are as accommodating to the family when we come to visit or take her out as COVID restrictions allow. As a health care worker, I am very pleased with the strict guidelines they follow to keep the vulnerable residents healthy. As she cannot leave without an escort, for safety reasons, the facility provides a secure, beautiful garden courtyard where she can go on her own. This place might not be a perfect fit for some, but with my mother's dementia, it provides her with excellent security (no one can go in or out without a staff member being present), good opportunities for socialization, and staff that work with her to make sure she's utilizing as much of her facilities as she is able.

There are not enough words for me to express how amazing Winter Growth Assisted Living Facility is, and how much they have blessed my family! My sister had a severe stroke in 2012, and I became her legal guardian at that time. By 2018, she was able to be moved to assisted living, which was quite a task for me to undertake because I didn't even know where to start. I live in Howard County, so I wanted my sister to be closer to me, and everyone that I spoke with mentioned how I should apply to Winter Growth because it was such a wonderful facility. They were not kidding! I called one day, had a tour the following day, and was already submitting the application shortly after. I was so impressed with Winter Growth's layout, staff, care given to the residents, etc. I knew that day this was the place for my sister, and seeing the dogs and cats in the facility just sealed it for me as we are animal lovers! Winter Growth just felt like "home". Sure it's not flashy and doesn't have all the latest technology or renovations, but how many of us can say that for our own homes? For me and my family, home is a place where it is warm, cozy and comfortable, and Winter Growth has all those boxes checked. We were very fortunate to have my sister accepted as a resident, and she has been very happy living there. She has her own room and privacy, but also has support at any time, should she need it. She enjoys the food and the company of other residents and staff. They have become her family as well. As with all of us in life, there are days that may not go so well, but the staff at Winter Growth will work with my sister and include me, so that all of us are on the same page. We always come to resolutions that benefit everyone. I know from personal experience that Winter Growth always looks out for the residents best interest, and treats them with respect and dignity, which I appreciate so much. Winter Growth always plans special events for the residents with their family's like Christmas dinners, Valentine's gatherings, or any other special occasion that comes up. My family, including my 2 children, always enjoy visiting because it's such a homey and welcoming environment. My sister also has many visits from other friends and family, and each one of them has told me that she is in an amazing facility! From March 2020 to the present, things have been tough with the pandemic, but we have made the best of it by speaking via FaceTime daily, dropping off items, having things shipped to her, etc. Winter Growth took the care and safety of their residents very seriously, and still do, and thankfully my sister has been healthy throughout everything. In a time of uncertainty, anxiety, and fear, I have had constant peace of mind knowing that my sister is receiving the best care at Winter Growth, where she is safe, healthy, and happy! I couldn't have asked for a better facility for my sister to live. We are so thankful for all they do by providing wonderful care and accommodations for their special residents. Winter Growth has been such a blessing to my family!

Winter Growth is a very nice facility, that truly cares about it residents/participants. The residents/participants receive great care. The staff are friendly and willing to help. The CEO/Director is always visible at the center. Personally, I really don't think you could find a center that provides better care for its participants/residents.
