Mother spent 100 days with this amazing team after a debilitating stroke. The patience and commitment of this team of therapists, nurses, doctors, and Roz was extraordinary. Only places that didn’t excel were the food, and communication by the nursing staff during a COVID outbreak. The PT and OT team taught her how to walk, complete self care, eat again. Mental health team counseled her through the darkest days. As a family, Spa Creek was a light for us. They are compassionate, they listen, they were creative, and they were partners in this journey.

STAY AWAY! I do not recommend this place for anyone! I’ve walked through alleyways in DC that are cleaner and don’t reek of urine as much. I sat with my mom while I watch bugs crawling along the baseboards in her semi-private room. I cried when I left my mom the first night. I had her rushed out by ambulance two days later due to lack of care and the incompetence of the staff. They allowed my mom to sit in a chair for over 4 hours after I specifically told them her feet must be elevated due to edema after receiving several blood transfusions at the hospital. I took a video of my mom’s wound literally dripping fluid through her gauze, bandage and tape. There was a puddle under her chair that was at least a pint or more. I visited at least three times per day because I didn’t trust the nursing staff. They also didn’t respond to mom after she buzzed the nurses station so she could use the bathroom. They allowed her to lay in her own fecal waste for over 4 hours. I called one of the staff to help me clean her up. When the nurse/aide arrived and saw the task at hand she said she’d be right back with wipes. I never saw her again. I can only assume when she saw the task at hand, she hid. When we first arrived the phone didn’t work nor the TV. I was completely cut off from my mom as far as contact. Was a very uneasy feeling. When I demanded they call 911 to get my mom back to the hospital knowing she was bleeding internally again, their response was “you’re not taking your mom anywhere!”. All bets were off at that point. Yes, I lost my temper. Yes, I raised my voice. I was justified to react to their non-reaction knowing the life or death situation my mom was in. Much more happened in those very short 2.5 days but suffice it to say, STAY AWAY! I will be pursuing reporting this facility to the local and state agencies as soon as time allows. No human deserves this type of treatment. I saw other patients receiving sub par care and being brushed aside. What a nightmare! To be fair, I met just two nurses aides that were kind, loving and gentle with my mom. I wish I could remember their names. Ladies, you deserve a better working environment. By far! Oh, and one more thing. Mom is now at day 7 in the hospital after I had her rushed out of this facility by ambulance. She was, in fact, bleeding internally. She is also receiving mega antibiotics due to a wicked UTI after being allowed to lay in her own waste for an extended period of time. Had I not been there to advocate for my mom, I can assure you I would probably be making funeral arrangements. If I could give this facility zero stars I would.

Do not send family here, unless they are capable of advocating for themselves and are only here for OT/PT (which is exceptional). Care is horrible. My father became severely dehydrated there, so much so that his blood pressure dropped extremely low and they were unable or unwilling to provide him with fluids. He was sent to hospital after my sister pushed the doctor to send him. It just seems like there’s a lack of care or compassion for the patients from the staff. The nurses shrug their shoulders when you ask a question. They were unable to find a blanket for my father when he was so cold he was shivering. His pillow case was stained and he had the same stained pillow case for over a week. The food is horrible, absolutely horrible. PT / OT are great. Really great. If you are able to advocate for yourself and are only there for rehab, then you might survive your stay. If not, then someone needs to be with you all day every day, and even then you might be in jeopardy.

The admission staff were very helpful with the tour and explaining to me the rehabilitation therapy that my wife had to go through. I was very pleased with nursing staff that are caring for my wife. To be honest they under staff.

Horrible place. Most aides indifferent to your needs. Wait hours for meds, over an hour to answer bell then irritated that they have to answer it. PT was adequate. Never forwarded pt info to home care. Lack of caring among all levels. Few good aids and nurses but most indifferent. Calling someone Momma is not endearing. Call by name.

Please do not place your love one in this facility. It is dirty. The staff is unprofessional and show no interest in the comfort or care of the patient. The staff resent any questions or request by the patient or family members. The staff congregate at the nurses station, laughing and talking and totally ignoring the lights over the doors of multiple patients rooms. This is the worst care facility I have ever seen.It shouldn’t be allowed to continue to operate.

This place is AWESOME if bed sores, mixed up medications, no blankets, disgusting food, and deplorable treatment of the residents is what you are looking for. It should be shut down!!! My parent was given heavy sedation in the middle of the day because he was too much of a nuisance, then yelled at because he was up all night. He missed most of his heart medications for whatever reason. The floor in his room was sticky the entire time he was there and he NEVER had a blanket!

Old dirty and poorly maintained. TVs and phones don’t work. Staff rude food terrible and no communication from medical staff. They nearly killed my mother: had to call an ambulance to get her to hospital for ignored cellulitis. Do not put a loved one in this place

Horrible! My cousin went in and the staff are clueless and rude. She went as a double leg amputee and they gave her a walker. Not sure what she was supposed to do with a walker. Trying to get some crackers as she has an upset stomach and can't tolerate the food. First they asked her what is a cracker (no joke) then told her they didn't have any. Can't get her nebulizer treatment, call button is useless, caretakers have a difficult time understanding english. The list goes on and on. Take your loved ones elsewhere, anywhere has to be better than this place.

My mother-in-law was at Spa Creek several times and was treated with loving care every time! The staff was available to answer any questions we had as well as keep us up to date with her care with several family meetings. Highly recommend Spa Creek!

My mother wound up going in here. She had been there before and I felt truly that she was in the best place that she could be. I have no complaints about anything there. She says the food is okay. Everything about it is good and it is clean.
