The care at Dionne Commons Residents is very good. The staff is very good and very nice. My mother is in a room with someone else and she feels very cramped because she only has half a room and a closet. She's not thrilled about that, but she needed to be in a facility where Maine Care would take over. It was chosen partially because they accepted Maine Care. The location and the grounds are fine. They have a really nice patio where they can sit outside. It's right next to a lot of medical buildings. She's only been there a couple of weeks and I like it very much. The staff that I've met were nice and my mother also said that they were very nice and accommodating. She is very satisfied with the food. The place seems fine. I didn't see anything that I found to be a problem.

It takes about a month to actually find out what Dionne Commons really is like and what kind of people they have working there. My first disappointment was to see with my own eyes the "click" they had between the manger Wendy, the nurse, the maintenance man and one of the day supervisors who always and I mean always smelled like she just finished smoking pot. And this was the person who gave out the daily medication to the residents. The reason my family never turned them in was we were afraid they would take it out on our loved one who was staying there. I witnessed in two and a half years more unbelievable atrocities that I could write a book on what I saw and what they put the family through. I could write so much more but you get the idea.

My parents liked Dionne Commons Residents, and it was right for them financially but not in the stage of their life right now. Dionne Commons is blue collar; that is where the working man goes. The interior of the facility is definitely not a benchmark standard, but by way of care it seems to be well-run. The people within the facility were definitely a different class of people, and we liked the camaraderie that was going on with the residents. They were all hanging out together, they were all kind of looking out for each other, and there was this family type environment. It was OK. They weren’t unhappy with it, but they weren't ready to go there now. I think that if both of them needed physical care, they would make that decision, and it would be OK. If they needed to be near me, this would be the place that they would choose, and the reason for it is that the nursing home is right across the street, and it is all kind of on the same campus where if they needed to be eventually separated because of finances, then they would be on the same campus. So that is what makes this one a kind of an option. I think in the income range that they are working with, it was the best in the area. They needed to do some decorating because based on the décor and the colors that were in there, it looked like they haven't done any renovations for a while.
