My mother-in-law is now at Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home. It's manned the way it should be. They serve the food for the guests. They have everything that you need. The interaction with the staff is good. My mother-in-law has a room with a bathroom and a kitchenette. It's more like an apartment. For activities, they have bingo, and they have music night where they gather around and sing songs. They have a library, too.

Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home was okay, but it only has independent living, and I wanted something down the line in case I needed assisted living. It was quite a bit cheaper. And about two-thirds of the units are subsidized, but there was a 3 to 5-year wait for that. I thought if I sold my home, I could probably pay the market rate for the 3 to 5 years while I was waiting, so that was a big selling point there. But the fact that it did not have the continuum of care, it was a bad point. The staff who gave the tour was good. I think the facilities were not quite as nice and fancy, but it was so much cheaper that I think it was a good value for your money. They had some amenities, but not as many as at the other place. Regarding the staff, I had a hard time getting them to get back to me. I would leave messages, and they wouldn't call back, but they were nice once I did meet them.

I took a woman over to Ellen M. Leach Memorial Hom. It was a very nice, beautiful place, and the food was excellent. I visited several places and this was one of the better ones. Parking was a major problem, though; they didn?t have a garage for her car either. I thought the woman who runs it was absolutely excellent, showed real concern, and went above and beyond while we were there. The apartment was small for her furniture. They had a beautiful library. It was an elegant place with all kinds of positive services for her. I couldn?t say enough good things about it. If she wanted a place to go, this is where she might go. The people who lived there seemed very happy. They had all kinds of activities and someone who takes them to the doctor. We had lunch there, and the meals were out of this world. I would recommend it. They had all kinds of services, including nursing services, as part of the fee; you?re not paying extra. And you won?t have to move out if for some reason you run low on money. They?ll put you on a different scale where you get the same things but for a lower fee.
