The Gardens Memory Care at Hickory Woods was a very, very nice place, but they were a little worried with my brother-in-law because he is a chronic alcoholic. They were a little bit worried that if he wanted liquor, he might upset the other people living there. The place was excellent. I was able to go in the memory care section. Because of COVID, they only allowed us to go there. It was very clean. They only had maybe six people in there. They looked very happy. It was so clean; I couldn't believe how clean, bright, and cheerful it was. The staff members were also excellent. They sat down with us and talked about my brother-in-law's issues, and they talked about issues they would have with him. In the memory care they have a little section set up right now for dining, but it wasn't the main dining area. Because of COVID, they were keeping people separate, so it's a little hard, but what they had set up for the people was nice. They had flowers, and they had a beautiful aquarium, which was huge. I was able to see the living quarters. Everyone was neat and clean. There was no smell of any kind. I told my husband that I'd love to come here when we get old because they really take care of the people and you can see that.

My mom has moved into the Hickory Woods Senior Living. It is well established. It has been there for quite sometime. It is not leading edge in terms of appearance. It is devoted more towards comfort than appearance. In looking at other places, they had beautiful facilities, but when you sat down in the chair, it was miserable. They weren't like a home quality. The environment is very good. The rooms are a little smaller than I probably would like, but they're comfortable. The staff is excellent. There is a very family atmosphere even among the employees. They're well connected. Probably the overriding decision for me was the quality of staff. One thing I really like is that they have like a park facility, and they have all kinds of animals. With age and everything to consider, that's a nice distraction. They have individual games that they can play, and they have group like competition, which is mind engaging. The facility is really laid back. Residents are encouraged to participate.
