Our Mother was treated horribly at Medicalodge in Wichita. The staff was lazy and incompetent. Mother fell out of her bed, broke her hip and had to have surgery. We would find her with food crusted all over her face and clothes. They fed her a little, then my sister or I would take over, while the aids sat at the same table eating breakfast. When Mother could no longer hold up her head we repeatedly asked for a different wheelchair. It never arrived. I saw them transfer her to her wheelchair with soiled depends on and I objected so they were changed. My sister laundered her clothes for 6 1/2 year's because they kept disappearing, even with her name on them. Staff was hardly available and it was rare to find the Director. My sister went at least twice a week to see her Mother who was helpless as she was immobile and had increasing dementia. She was told by a nurse that "You're only here a couple times a week. What do you know?" Mother never caused any trouble. We are so sorry we didn't get our 'Mother out of there sooner.

I have no complaints about Medicalodge. They're all great and caring people. They really care about the patients as well as their families.

If a person only has medicare or medicaid for insurance the choices of nursing homes is severely diminished. Medicalodge was the only nursing home in Wichita that could or would take my father in law who was a quadrapoligic. Though he did require a lot of care, i feel that older people should have better options. Medicalodge was smelly from the minute you walked in. The elderly wandered around aimlessly. My father in law shared a room with 3 other men. There was no privacy at all. One of the roommates was very hard of hearing and had a tv at the end of his bed that was blaring all hours of the day and night. It was very disruptive to Al, my father in law. Al also had to endure being left in diapers for long period of times even though he could use the toilet with assistance. It was a very degrading experience for him. After a few months I think his will gave out and he passed away.

This facility was spacious and had a very friendly environment. However, the building itself was quite old, although the staff did their best to make it look nice with lovely decorations. The staff themselves were very efficient. They seemed to attend to those in need very quickly, even when staffing was short on a few different occasions. My grandmother seemed to love the food and activities provided by the faculty. She even made friends with a few others and some of the staff members were nice enough to take them out to dinner a few times, on their own time, and paying with their own money. I gave the facility a rating of four out of five because the staff couldn't be better, but the shape of the facility itself could definitely improve. Regardless of how I feel about the shape of the building, my grandmother loved it and seemed very pleased with her decision to live there. Altogether, she lived there for four years before passing away.

My experience in this facility was horrible, the CNA's treated them very poorly, and rough. They acted like they didn't matter at all. Some of the residents smelled so bad of urine it burned my eyes. In my eyes what they were during was elderly abuse. So me and a few of my friends turned them into the state. Not only did the treat them roughly but they yelled at them and ignored requests. They even went so low as to putting them in the hallway for hours while they chatted and used their cell phones. It was the worst experience visiting a nursing facility in my life!

This is one of those nursing homes that serves its purpose, but you would not choose it if you have options. It is located in the southeast area of the city and is not very pleasing to the eye. The facility needs to be updated and brighted up. Can't imagine living here. It is a skilled nursing home for both short term and long term care. Always appears to be understaffed. This is an employee owned facility so staff should be vested in making things better. In fairness, they have made some strides toward person centered care, but they have a long way to go.
