My sister moved to Paramount Community Living and Rehab. I'm very impressed with the staff. The staff was very attentive, lots of staff are always available, and always around. The administration is very quick to respond. The facilities are kept very clean. The security is extremely high. They give out their code to no one. For me to even get in and out, I always have to wait for someone. There are always nursing people and staff around. I'm up there at different times during the day and there's always somebody around invisible. The staff is respectful and kind with the patients and seems to be very knowledgeable of how to handle when their patients are being difficult. My sister talked very highly of the food and said it was very good. They seem to have a good balanced meal. They do a good job with that. They have a wonderful exercise area and they have areas where they can go outside. There isn't a secured outside area with the facility she's in, but it's a little older facility, so that's probably part of it. They have activities for the whole month. They have an activity director, and they give them a calendar and they can pick what activities they want to go to. We chose Paramount Community Living and Rehab because it was in the city that my sister was familiar with. The one thing that probably impressed me the most was the availability and visibility of the staff.

What you can do with Caring
About Paramount Community Living and Rehab in Newton, Kansas
Asbury Park is dedicated to providing a continuum of care for older adults. Our organization provides caring services to assure that life continues to have meaning and dignity. As a mission of the United Methodist Church, we provide our services in an atmosphere of Christian care and concern.
A new model of university-designed patio homes is now underway on Asbury Park's independent living campus. These homes are intentionally designed with elements that allow individuals to age-in-place and remain in their homes longer as their mobility, health and other physical abilities decline.
In each of our Green House Homes is specifically dedicated to rehabilitation services. This house has only 8 residential rooms and a therapy room which is fully equipped to make sure people are ready for everyday life they return home.
Asbury Park is now providing a safe environment for those who are challenged with symptoms of memory impairment. Our setting is just like home with a kitchen, dining room, living room, bedrooms, and a private courtyard.
All of Asbury Park's residential rooms are single occupancy, and families appreciate the security of knowing their loved ones are cared for in their own private rooms in a Christian environment.
In our dining room, elders and guests can choose entrées from a menu just as if they were in a restaurant, so meantime is always enjoyable. In Fact, in 2012 Asbury Park was recognized for exemplary dining services, and received the prestigious Five Star Gracious Dining Award from the Dietetic Association of Kansas.
We offer Planned outings, pastoral services, life enrichment, and volunteer opportunities, plus intergenerational activities with the children at Asbury Station Child Care Center located on our campus.
Our community represents an engaging, friendly neighborhood and an unhurried place where elders can feel relaxed and away from it all while receiving the assistance that they need or desire when they need it.

The people from Asbury Park were very kind and we actually thought about them, but an opening came up at another community, which is in the same town and cheaper. We were interested to see this community's independent living. They have their duplexes out at the back of the building, and that's what we were looking at. Their apartments were all cleaned up, neat, and ready to go. It was a cute little place and again, we actually considered it. We didn't have any complaints. The staff member we met was very friendly and helpful, and she stayed late to help us. She was just wonderful. It was just like having your own duplex, and you can pay extra to eat there if you don't want to cook your own meal. I'm going to rate them a four because I feel like there can always be improvement on things; it's not that I have any complaints. The place was very neat, clean, and smelled nice.

Asbury Park is perfect in every way and I don't think there's anything better. My mother-in-law is in their memory care sectiom. The staff members are all very caring people, ey thdo a good job, and there's absolutely nothing lacking. The food is incredible. If you compared it to all the available restaurants in town, it's the best. They do crafts, games, chair exercises, puzzles, and they take them for walks.

Asbury Park is split up into several different buildings. They have an independent living, which is one- and two-bedroom duplexes. They are out away from the main office building, then they have a building, which is a nursing home, and then they have an independent living place. You can go from one to the other to the next if you have to. We didn't get to go into any of the apartments, and that was another downside because we didn't see any of them. The lady took us in a van to look at the different buildings from the outside, but we did not go into any of them. Another thing was that they require you to put $1,000 down which you don't get back to hold a room if you have to go to assisted or nursing home. If you wanted to go into the nursing home or in their assisted living at some point in time, that might be fine, but I didn't want to put $1,000 down on somewhere that I might not stay. The assisted living building was newer. The nursing home looked like a much older building. I wasn't impressed at all with the outside, but I didn't get to see the inside of it. The duplexes were pretty old, too.

Asbury Park is very nice, new, and modern-looking. It's a really nice neighborhood. You can order meals that they can bring to you at your place if you're not feeling well. They have a beauty shop. The dining room is very nice and open. The staff is very nice and helpful.

I did not like Asbury Park. They had very nice landscaping, but that's all. It was not anything I was interested in at all. It was mostly a care home. However, if you're not disabled, they had some duplexes on the property, but that would not include any of the facilities. I could get that anywhere else a lot cheaper. The staff member wasn't trying hard; I wasn't her type of clientele.

After 32 years in independent living on the campus of Asbury Park, I moved into assisted living. It has been wonderful, with help in whatever way I need it. A nurse on duty if I have health questions, staff to assist as needed, food prepared and served tastefully, other residents with which to enjoy activities, a lovely apartment furnished with my own furnishings. I thank God every day for Asbury Park.

I have lived here since 2001. My parents were here from 1991 to 2003. It is my opinion that things have been satisfactory. They have had some problems but they explain what they can't do and help find ways to help.

My husband is a current resident and he needs a lot of care. We pay $1,500 monthly plus meds. If I ask for anything extra it costs extra. Overall, I am pleased!

Beautiful facility. Impeccably clean. Kind and friendly care. The only area of improvement would be the quality of food.

I liked Asbury Park. It was a fine and reasonable facility, and they had an Alzheimer's wing too. The staff seemed very helpful. They were doing some arts and crafts construction work with some of the Alzheimer's patients, and they were very friendly and very professional. The rooms were excellent, very clean, and very nice. It was a pretty new facility, so they were nice and new too. They actually got a bar that people can go and get ice cream from and all that, so I am sure the food would have been excellent.

It was a good experience. Everything was clean. All the staff were very friendly. It also seemed as though people were well taken care of. The residence in this facility all seemed friendly, happy and in good health. The food wasn't as bad as anticipated. The held games for the residence to stay busy. The community room was alive and in swing, with card cards, gossip, and the television in the background. A nice bird exhibit was on display for there enjoyment.

I love everything about this continuum of care community located in the rural (but enriched) city of Newton, Kansas. This community really utilizes the latest and most person- friendly concepts of elder care and aging. Getting away from the institutional feel to care is a primary goal here. The tools that are being used are a product of the Eden Alternative, which promotes positive cultural and physical changes in the nursing community. Green House Homes, which are similar to Home Plus residences, are more home-like setting for groups of no more than 10, in which care can be delivered. I am talking about a nursing home level of care! The homes are well designed and cheerful. The Assisted Living Facility is really a neighborhood and care is customized. I like that the residents' art work lines the halls. It is so much more than a room and meals! Speaking of which, residents now have choices from a menu. And the staff knows them well. The independent homes are rented, with no buy-in requirement. This is a large campus near lots of community ammenities.
