My mom lived at Birdee Cottage for 8 months in 2023 and 2024 with moderate to advanced cognitive impairment. During that time, she frequently appeared to be "drowsy", but we were told it could be due to her dementia progressing. She was in bed most of the time, many times delirious, she didn't recognize us very often. They checked on her through a camera in her room and didn't seem to have a schedule of checking in person. I would find messy depends on the floor, garbage in her room, feces on her comforter and floor and she often had soiled pants when I visited. When I asked the director what the care plan for her incontinence was, she responded "we aren't going to follow your mom around 24/7" which was not at all what I expected. My mom lost 40lbs during her 8 months living there and weighed 108lbs when we moved her to another facility. We brought up her weight as a concern to her doctor and to the director and the director advised they aren't required to weigh her. Her doctor deemed it as a possible side effect of her dementia. Once we moved my mom to another facility within two days she started eating again and gained 20lbs in less than 3 months, she began recognizing us on a regular basis again, she could carry on a conversation, she was up and participating in activities instead of in bed all day. She was discharged from Hospice within a few months of moving out of Birdee Cottage.

The tour we had at Birdee Cottage Assisted Living & Memory Care was good. It was very clean and had a very new feeling. The patio was very pretty. They've got some flowers and pumpkins. It was just very pleasant out there. We liked that it's kind of small and that it's family-oriented. The people seemed to be very nice. The staff who assisted us was very, very pleasant and knowledgeable. They could furnish the room for you if you want, or you can bring in your own stuff. The one thing that was kind of off putting is we didn't see any of the other residents around.

The staff at Birdee Cottage Assisted Living & Memory Care was friendly. The place was really home-like, the rooms and the facility itself were very clean, organized, and very welcoming. The rooms were sufficient for what they needed. They told me what the menu was gonna be, which was more home-cooked food, and the cook was very friendly. They specialize in Alzheimer's patients, more so than I think nursing homes do.
