Hillside Manor Nursing Home was not fancy. There was not a lot of fancy furniture or pictures on the wall but as far as the care is concerned, I have no problems whatsoever with that. My wife was kept clean and she was well fed. They treated her as they should always. I would go there myself in a heartbeat. I never saw anything or heard anything that caused me any concern. She had to be fed and I was there at lunchtime several times. I said "Hey, I can do that." and they said "No, no, no. That's my job and I want to do it." So, I sat there, watched, and her eyes were 99% closed. So, they put the food on the spoon, touched her lips, she'd open her lips, take it, chew it, swallow, and they would go to the next bite. I saw what she was eating and I thought it looked pretty good. Better than what I'm going to eat when I get home. I saw the menu for a week more than once and all looked attractive. It was presented as it should be. It was clean. There was a room that I saw from where she was eating where I could see the games that could be played. There were people there playing Monopoly or card games. As far as something organized like a group thing, I never witnessed that, but I have no problems.

My father was staying at this facility as he rehabilitated after open heart surgery. The staff was very caring and patient with him and did their best to make it seem like home. He was frustrated often because he is of completely sound mind and it was hard for him to be taken care of in a nursing facility but the nurses and staff did an excellent job working with him. Dad rehabilitated with therapy and enjoyed working with the girls even though it was a rough road. He commented many times that if it wasn't for their kindness he would never have done so well. He had complications from the surgery and pain from a previous back surgery that made movement extremely difficult at times. The nurses and therapy department as well as the administration worked with him to find things he could do to help speed his healing along. They also worked with us in making sure that insurance coverage did not lapse. I would recommend this home to others because I myself have seen that they care for their patients.
