My mother moved into Wellbrooke of South Bend. It's a new place, it's very nice, the staff is very knowledgeable, and they have a rehab facility on the campus. They've been very accommodating with the food, my mom is a vegetarian, they're working on a menu together about a menu, and that's going well. We have eaten there, and the food was very good. They have a lot of activities, they have a library, and they have a room where they can view films. The facility itself has a lot of windows, so there's light, and a lot of sunlight comes in. Their assisted living section is full, but they're adding onto their facilities. I was very impressed with it.

I visited Wellbrooke of South Bend. I would say it was a very clean and safe facility. They were practicing Covid restrictions like they should be, and everyone was friendly. I saw a private room and another one (it's not called semi-private there). Even as a semi-private, there was a lot of privacy to that room. They were good sized rooms with pleasant, bright windows. She was going to get physical therapy, so she would have been well taken care of, I think. I know they had a physical therapy room; I guess you would consider that a gym. I visited the long-term care section, not the assisted living.

I visited Wellbrooke of South Bend in person. It's fairly new and it's bright. The actual tour itself was very good. The positive there is that they have exercise programs and they have exercise facilities, which is a big plus. They are extremely expensive. We only got to meet the person that gave us the tour; we did not get to meet any other staff members. The person who gave us the tour and the one who talked to us was very pleasant and very upbeat. It's fairly new. They try to make it very bright. The place used to be a small indoor mall that they tore down and built, so it is on a corner. The rooms look out on streets and a little bit of a patio. It is not a pleasant experience for any of the rooms looking out any window, which is obviously a little bit of a negative. The rooms are extremely small.

My grandmother for a short while recently lived at Wellbrooke. As hard as it is seeing your loved one being at the mercy of someone else I at least thought my dining experience would be relieving for me. It was not. The service was horrible. The food was also very cold, after not being the correct meal in which I ordered, twice, to say the least. The aids seem as if they do not want to be working. No one seems happy at Wellbrooke. The nurses are short and rude and the executive director does not have a clue about running a health care facility. Not to mention she’s only but twenty years old. My heart goes out to the staff and residents because there is a struggle.

This place looks great and has a nice interior design - however the nurses seem incompetent, unprofessional and are mean and rude. They had no idea what was going on - just clueless and not smart or on the ball. The food is ok - but the administration is young and not experienced. My father went there for rehab after losing a leg and left with less skills than when he went in. He also caught C-diff there A highly contagious intestinal infection - He was quarantined most of his stay - so was not able to get proper rehab because he could not go to the rehab gym. I believe they released him because workers had to wear protective clothing to change my dads diapers - it was too much work for them. We had Home Instead aides go in each day because Wellbrooke staff was not doing their job - Staff Was not available and if you push the call button expect to wait 45 minutes for someone to show up - if at all. Staff was not empathetic to the needs of the patients. Because staff was young they have no experience in what it takes to be effective caregivers. The rooms were always a mess - there was poop on the wall one day when I went in. Look for a less glamorous place where people are educated, smart, competent and professional - Just because the facility looks nice doesn’t mean they know what they’re doing!

Wellbrooke of South Bend was a beautiful community, but the location was not close to me personally. I didn't like that their restroom wasn't in a good place. It was right by the door of the unit when you walk in, and a little bit further is her living area. So from her bedroom, she'd have to go around the corner to get to her restroom.
