I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is at Anam Care. I am very, very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the other residents. When you walk into it, the residents are clean. They will make eye contact with you and smile. They're friendly. Some are ambulatory, and some are in wheelchairs. My understanding is that everybody is out of their room during the day unless they need a nap, so they're all in the community most of the time, and it's wonderful. I'm very impressed with it. My husband got a reasonably large, unfurnished room, about 14 x 14. It easily accommodates a single bed or a full bed. Some of the rooms have small sofas, overstuffed chairs, little tables, and dressers. They're very, very nice rooms, and you can furnish them to make them very cozy and homelike. I was able to take pieces of furniture from my home, move them to my husband's room, and try to make it familiar, comfortable, and a nice place for him. Once I walked in all the residents were in one of the community rooms that had a couple of sofas, a couple of seats, and some overstuffed chairs, and wheelchairs filling in other places there. Most of the community was there together. Everybody had a small dish of ice cream. Everybody I observed was able to feed themselves. It was vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and sprinkles, and they loved it. The other snack that I observed was freshly popped popcorn kind of mixed in with some Cheetos cheese puff bars or something like that, too. Each resident got a small bowl of popcorn and some fruit juice. The one activity that I was there to observe when I arrived, my husband was in the second community room, which is set up a little bit differently. They use this room for crafts or different activities. Most of the residents were there participating. Two gentlemen, probably in their 60s or 70s, were playing guitar music from the 1950s and 1960s. When I sat by my husband, he was sitting up well in his chair. He was alert and participating. He was tapping his fingers to the music, which he hadn't done for a long time, and he started singing along to the songs that he knew. It was just delightful to see. Other people in the room were also interacting like that. It was a wonderful, wonderful time. It is very expensive, but I feel very, very good.

My father is at Anam Care. I've been very happy with them. They're very attentive. If anything happens, they call me right away. The facility is always very clean. His room is always very clean. His hygiene is really good. He likes the food there. I've been pleased with it myself. For activities, they do some music. They were decorating cookies one day when I was there. They have activities every day. They have some people come in with dogs and so they get to pet the dogs. They have an outdoor area where they can go outside. The staff are so nice and so accommodating. I appreciate that. A nurse sees my father every morning. They take care of his medications. They just do it all, so it's great for me.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is doing well at Anam Care. He's in memory care because he has Alzheimer's. It is very homey. It's a decent-sized facility. It's not big. He's getting personalized care which is very good. They've been really good about communicating with us. It's been just a very good overall experience so far. The staff is very caring, very sweet, and super helpful. One of the ladies that works with my dad called my sister the other day and gave her an update and it made her feel so good after she talked to that lady. They're not only helping my father, they're helping us, and they have all just been so wonderful. I can't say enough good things about them. They've been giving him nice, chopped-up meals that he can eat. They give him three good meals a day and three snacks. I've heard that the food is really good. I've heard a lot of other people say great things about them and it's a beautiful place. It's very clean. The room they have him in is a nice big room. So far, it's been great.

I visited this facility

Anam Care was terrible. I wouldn't recommend that place to anybody. We did a tour and a talk, and the thing that really turned me off was they had no bathrooms in any of the rooms. They had a couple of bathrooms located in the middle of the building, and their reasoning was that it's a lot easier to clean three toilets than 18. Plus, the rooms were very small and everybody had to share a room. There wouldn't have even been room for any personal items of my mom's in her room. They only had room for the two beds, a wardrobe, and two nightstands. The residents all looked so down and depressed. They all just sat there in their wheelchairs like they had nothing to do. It just didn't seem like a good place.
