My mother is in Oakbrook Healthcare Centre. Right now, it's for rehabilitative care and then she'll be moving into long-term care. It's very clean. The people are very helpful. It's got amenities onsite, a library, an outdoor terrace, and a kitchen that's accessible to families. They have pretty good specialist care certified who come in and work on a consultant basis rather than having staff trying to do more complicated processes. The thing that's hard, but that's with most nursing facilities and for the elderly, is that they're understaffed. They do a very good job of trying to stay staffed and take care of everyone's needs. There is coordination of care, but there's no one person that you can relate to on a consistent basis for progress updates and that seems to be fairly common. My mother was in another nursing facility and that was the same problem. They have activities. It's a pretty active community. With the rehab part, they do their best to get people up and moving as soon as possible. The food is just standard nursing home hospital kind of food. The people are very helpful and they assist, but they constantly rotate the staff, so you'll have somebody for three or four days, and then it'll be somebody else both at the aide and the nursing level. It's expensive, but they have beds for people on public assistance.

The decor is very tired. The skilled nursing area is not staffed well. It took 40’ to have a bell answered. Acute rehab was much better. Physical therapy and Occupational therapy was very good. Administration is not responsive to complaints.

Oakbrook Healthcare Centre is the facility my mother-in-law was released from and now she's going back in to do some rehab. They're going to see if she'll stay there or in the other facilities that would be good for the family to look at. She was already there. She was in the hospital for a week and then she was transferred from the hospital to Oakbrook for rehab. She was there for almost 3 weeks, and then she just was released last Saturday and now she's going back in. It was chosen based on proximity. We toured it and it was fine, but it was also based on proximity to the family since it's kind of close. The place seems clean, it doesn't smell, and the staff is friendly. It met all my mother-in-law's needs. The food seems not that great but it was fine. It just didn't have much flavor. We sat with her at dinnertime and we tasted the food. It was a kind of mass-produced food. She had a lovely private room, it was very nice, and kept up very nicely. She was in a portion in the facility where they had games to stimulate them, TV, and music. For rehab, she was doing some activity to strengthen her because she broke her hip so they were trying to strengthen her ability to walk. They did things but it was kind of hard to gauge whether they were engaging everybody including those with memory issues. I know the staff was trying though.

Stay as far away from this place as you can as it’s certainly not for the faint of heart. I have no idea how they got a 5 star rating. The food is fair at best. The rooms are depressing and most of them have an extremely poor view out the windows. Some of the staff is good but most of them are far from it. The majority of the nurses just want to pass out pills and do nothing else. Expect to wait at least a half hour to an hour for an aide to answer the call light. The aides do not help each other at all. If you’re old and vulnerable? They will take advantage of you and just leave you without help. They know older people are afraid to say anything because they are afraid of repercussions and then getting even less help. They will do as little as possible for you. I couldn’t figure out why my loved ones’ hair looked so horrible = it looked wet but wasn’t. It turns out the aide would just rub it with a wet washcloth and the dispenser soap; she would not use the shampoo that I brought or rinse out the dispenser soap. Her hair was absolutely FILTHY. During a Covid surge I routinely saw administrators without masks on. I had to go back over there at night several times to fix problems of neglect. I was there every single day to try to make sure care was being given. They’re fine when you’re there and neglectful when you’re not. They’re too lazy to help patients up at night to go to the bathroom and they won’t even put them on a bedpan. They just let them lay in a wet diaper. My love one got diaper rash because of it! The one and only bright spot is the PT, OT, Speech Department. They are phenomenal. They are well aware of the issues outside of their gym and are powerless to do anything about it. They tell people to report the problems to the administrators...............who do absolutely nothing with the complaint. NOTHING.

My mom was at Oak Brook Care for rehab. Many of her clothes that were in her possession while she was there were lost. They sent her home in the wrong wheelchair, and there was just a variety of things. The facility was very unorganized with their discharging process, but overall the level of therapy and care were satisfactory. I think their activities were very limited because of COVID, but I do believe they have some activities for seniors if they were interested. Communication was also an issue. It doesn't seem like the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. There are so many different check-ins and updates that need to be done, and we're all disappointed with that.

i was looking for a place for my dad to come because he needed a locations for occupational therapy. My dad was having issues with his legs so he needed to find a location that would be able to help him and get to the point where he could get his strength back so he could walk unassisted. They were really helpful and nice when we came in. They gave us a tour of the place and we were really impressed!

My mother-in-law was in a rehab community called Oakbrook Care. The place was fine, but we would never go back because the physical therapy went against orders from the nearest surgeon and order from the neurologist for continued care. My mother-in-law was basically kicked out because the physical therapy manager was arrogant and totally careless. The whole management staff of that facility was totally unsupportive. The medical nurses were OK, but the administration was a disaster. They need to change the manangement staff.

My mother-in-law recently suffered a stroke.. Following the initial hospital stay, we arranged for her to rehabilitate at the Oakbrook Healthcare Centre based on a strong recommendation we had received from the family of a recent resident. We found the facility and rooms to be very comfortable, nicely decorated and impeccably clean. There are two enclosed outdoor patios that are nicely landscaped and an interior bird sanctuary with exotic birds. There are also numerous activities for the residents that change periodically. Any staff that we encountered were very pleasant and attentive. Of particular concern to us was the rehabilitation facilities and staff. The effects of the stroke required both physical and speech therapy. The therapy sessions that she received resulted in amazing results over a relatively short period. When she first entered, she could not stand up on her own and had limited arm movement. She was walking and moving comfortably following two weeks of rehab sessions. Her speech also improved significantly, though it appears that she will have some permanent limitations. We are most grateful to the staff for their diligence and consistent efforts! My wife and I recognize that this is a very tough business that needs to respond to a large variety of special needs that each resident presents. We were very impressed with the facility, the specialized services, and the attentive care that my mother-in-law received. We would highly recommend this facility to anyone that has a loved one in need of this service.

Both my parents were residents here. Both died here. It is still painful but want to share some our family experiences of this place with others. Housekeeping staff is TOPS - the most caring of the lot. Aides are a clicky, sullen bunch (at least in the basement -oh excuse me 'The Garden View' - an enormous euphemism if ever there was one!) We ended up hiring our own personal aide to care for the folks, just to make sure that they were adequately attended. It was sad and Oakbrook refused to acknowledge the staffing problems but would rather blame the residents. More medication and verbal abuse (or abuse by neglect) was the operating philosophy. There must be better institutions out there. Oh, the rooms shown are PRIVATE - NOT the norm, by the way.

I was surprised to read the review that said the staff was caring. The nurses were for the most part very nice and well trained. They are predominantly Filipino, a culture that encourages care for the sick and elderly. The aides, however, are a different story. I spent time in two sections. The first was a residential wing where many patients elderly. They sometimes were confused or unable to explain what they needed. I observed behavior that was emotionally abusive. I was glad that I could move about on my own and not depend on an aide. The second area was another wing they were remodeling into private rooms for short term rehab patients. The rooms are old fashioned and small. There was no shower in either room I used. There is only a call button, not a speaker system where someone answers your call. Phones must be rented and are expensive. The food is adequate, but fruits and vegetables are usually from a can. Physical therapy is in a light filled room. Therapists tend to work on their computers rather than offer to help someone who is not their patient. My therapist was very good. Remember that your doctor will NOT have privileges there unless a member of the staff. I was assigned a doctor who smiled at me every few days, waved his stethoscope in my direction and said I was doing very well. Not true because he never ordered blood tests so my potassium levels dropped to a dangerous low and I experienced supraventricular tacchycardia, necessitating a quick ambulance ride to the ER. Unfortunately for me, the nursing staff did not immediately respond to my frantic whispers of "911, 911," but insisted I was having a panic attack. Finally one aide or nurse said, "I can't get a pulse" and they reluctantly called the ambulance. They truly looked afraid, as if they would be punished for having a patient transferred on their watch. I would not recommend this facility to anyone who couldn't fend for themselves.

This facility provides both short term rehab and long term care and tends to be one of the sought after options in the immediate geographic region. It is located on a main road just a few blocks from highway access, in a primarily business district. The setting has inherent spatial constraints otherwise the facility likely would have expanded its walls. There is some small designated outdoor space that is nicely maintained, comfortable, safe and secure for residents and families to utilize, though again it is small. It is not really possible to go for a quiet walk due to the busyness of location and the distance one would need to traverse in order to get to a residential area. The interior of the facility has been remodeled over time and the common areas are tastefully decorated in a down-to-earth, warm and homelike fashion. There are some smaller sitting areas besides the lobby where residents and families can relax. The rooms are of average size and most are shared, with a few privates available. Both common areas and resident rooms are typically very clean and well maintained. The food, while nothing to rave about, is consistently good, or at least not bad, and quite palatable. The staff, both therapy related and direct care, are consistently kind, patient and attentive to resident needs.
