My mother has been at Radford Green Health Care and Rehabilitation for four weeks now. It's physical and occupational therapy. She was there in July for four weeks as well. The treatment she received there in July far exceeded what's happening now in the four weeks she has been there this time. They are not doing a good job this time. They don't engage the patients there. I've seen the notes that they put in my mother's chart relative to her progress and her memory issues. One of the things I struggled with these last four weeks is they don't take out my mother's hearing aids at night and put them in the morning. And then they make comments, 'You talk to her, but she doesn't respond. She might just smile at you.' I go in there in the morning and check on her and her hearing aids were never taken out and they're dead. You've got dead hearing aids in your ears, so you can't hear anything. And I have struggled and struggled with that. It shows up in her chart that my mother doesn't respond when you talk to her, well, she can't hear you, and it's in the chart. My mother's OT person is pretty good. She does a pretty good job with her, but the PT person is a disaster. He has no patience for my mother. They had no activities, and that's one of my issues with the staff, too. When my mother was there previously, most of the time they took her down to the dining room for meals, so she got out and sat with other people, those types of things. This time they've never taken her down. They bring her meals to her in her room. She has been down a couple of times, either my sister or myself will take her to the cafeteria during mealtime. But the staff, no. It's not happening. Their food is not gourmet, but it's edible. I would say it's a very clean facility. They do a good job of keeping it up. But in terms of patient care, they're not doing a good job this time.

I’m afraid I cannot offer the glowing reviews I’ve read from others. My wife was in the rehab section of Radford Green for six weeks. Unfortunately, she ended up with a major case of road rash on her backside. It grew from minor redness to a raging sore about a foot across, fire red, and incredibly painful. As a wheel chair victim she wasn’t able to walk to the bathroom but doctors approved transfers with help from the staff. Press the call button and someone will help you to the bathroom … she was told. Instead the answer was always the same thing. “OK, we’ll be right back”. Only they would not come back most times in less that two hours. The problem was she was left sitting in her own excrement for hours and hours every day. She was also supposed to be turned periodically every day to prevent bed soars. Over six weeks they actually turn her four times … ever. So she developed a raging rash, maybe because of not being turned … maybe because of sitting in her own excrement every day for hours at a time. But the staff didn’t care. They ignored her stressful calls all through her six weeks there. It was so bad she still has some sores even after five months at home. This was absolutely shameful negligence by the rehab center. I wish I could show you a picture of her backside … it would not be for the squeamish … but it would keep you from going to Radford Green EVER!

I have a relative who has lived here for over a year and the service is woefully inept. They are always short handed (according to the staff) and the staff frequently turns over so there is little continuity in care. Even the regular staff are not scheduled on the same wings or floors so they are not able to serve the same residents consistently to get to know their specific needs. They don't regularly provide the basic hygiene services that are required by state and federal guidelines. They used to have a good reputation years ago but over the past few years the quality of care has deteriorated due to changes in administrative staff. Complaints are acknowledged, but after a week of minimal improvement, things decline back to the subpar norm. Check out the reviews on Yelp which support our experience. The only positives are the food is pretty good and the place is clean.

My father was at Radford Green. I thought it was very good. We did not have any complaints. I thought the level of care was good. He was always well taken care of. He was fed, dressed, and cleaned well. He was only there for seven days. They had very nice, beautiful, well-appointed rooms. The food was very good. There were lots of things on the menu, and you could even eat in your room or the dining room. The kitchen had 24-hour availability, so family members could just walk to the kitchen area and get any snacks, cold drinks, or anything else for their loved ones. My father did some therapy, walking, and exercises.
