My mom, Marcelline G, was a 3rd floor resident for over 2 years. She had progressing dementia and Parkinson's. The staff took excellent care of her, and despite the pandemic, I received regular reports on her condition-even when nothing had changed. Whenever I visited, she and her room were always clean. Despite her lack of engagement in any activity, she was always included in the day room, and often had a nice manicure! When her condition deteriorated rapidly, the staff was in constant contact with me, and I was allowed full access to her with Covid precautions. My heartfelt thanks to Pat, Cici, and the staff of the 3rd floor. Also to Michael in Patient Services and Dimas in Administration for helping us navigate through a difficult time.

Lord, where do i even begin with this place. It all started last week. Our mamma is in this place on the 3rd floor. Nursing is just a nightmare. We told staff to change our loved one and she went over and said to change her to a nurse and she replied “this is memory care, let them p*** their diapers and we will change it later”. Then on sunday there was a big fight between nurses and kitchen staff over juice. Older lady tryna pour juice and pass trays all by herself while nurses were on their phones making fun of her sayin “hurry up grandma” and “shes as old as dust”. Tall man had to come up and get her out of there. They be hollering and scaring all the peoples around. Then yesterday we had even more problems when we talked to nurses. Also it’s impossible to reach anyone on the phone so we always have to go up there. Food is nasty as hell too. We are looking for other places and want her out asap! Will be placing a call to the state. Shut this place down!

My mom is currently at Grove of La Grange Park. No one is allowed in the place, but by phone conversations it seems OK. I don't know if we've had any problem with it, we won't be able to tell until we can get in. I don't know how available the doctor is or anything like that. I receive calls, although I have not been receiving lately, but yes, they keep us updated on COVID details and just keep us updated on what is going on. It is hard to get ahold of people there. A lot of the times they won't answer the phone and if you leave a message the answering machine turns off at like five seconds so you can't even leave your number without being disconnected.

I visited The Grove of Lagrange Park facility over this past weekend looking for placement for my mom for the future. The staff were very friendly and were happy to answer all of my questions. The rooms were not the most appeasing visually, but they did smell nice. They had a manager in the building, which apparently they have someone different scheduled daily to be there and make sure the building runs smoothly. The manager showed me around and after seeing the 2nd floor showed me this big conference room with a projector screen and reclining movie theatre type seats. On my way out I noticed a small patio on the side of the building surrounded by trees and flowers, there were some residents sitting out there enjoying the fresh air. As I got into my car I thought to myself: My mom is not ready to leave assisted living as of yet. But when she is, The Grove of Lagrange Park seems like a very nice place for her transition.

If you value the life of your loved one, I beg you to RUN away from The Grove as quickly as you can. Absolutely abysmal care and neglect so severe it ultimately led to the death of our father. Bedsores, dehydration, malnutrition, and finally he was dropped on his head during a transfer. Nurses response to every concern, was, “It’s my first day”, “I’m not usually on this floor”, “Sorry, we’re understaffed”, or just plain, “I don’t know”. I also find it very telling that they removed the Review section from their Facebook page. This facility should be shut down. We regret sending our loved one here so much. Please learn from our mistake… stay away!

I was not very impressed with what I saw of the Grove. The hallways and rooms were dingy and dark. The patients did not seem very happy and were never acknowledged by the staff members as they passed them. Parking was pretty much nonexistent and difficult to navigate. I would not put anyone in here if it were up to me.
