I was in Bethesda Rehab & Senior Care two months ago. That place wasn't that big but they were nice and friendly. It's not as fancy, but it's very clean. If you don't like their food, they will get you what you want to eat, and they will make it for you. They have everything. You could use the Internet, and you could even hook the internet up on your TV, so you have a bigger screen. Everything you need there, they have. If you need something that they don't have, they will go out and get it for you. If you like ice cream every day, they'll serve you ice cream even in the morning, serve you anything you want. That facility to me was probably one of the best. It's not as fancy as the one I am in right now, but it's not horrible looking either. They had the friendliest staff I ever met, even from the nurses, the doctors, all the way down to the CNA. They go around, they joke with you, and they make you feel at home. They have all kinds of activities, and you could do a lot of things. I just got out of there like two months ago, some of those things are limited because of the Covid 19, which most of the other places have as well. It's a very good area and very safe. It has a huge parking lot. So, if you have visitors and they could come in and visit, you don't need to worry about parking. It's a very unusual building looking from the outside, but it's very clean. What I mean by unusual is it has a different architecture.

Everything at Bethesda Rehab & Senior Care seemed to be very clean and very organized. I saw residents watching TV and they were attended to, so it looked like they interact a lot with the residents. They have a mental specialist on the floor. Everything seemed to be pretty good. The staff was very friendly and very thorough with the information that I was asking for. She was very clear about what is offered and how everything works. I like the fact that they have a dedicated person in charge of the floor. They only have 15 people on the floor, which means that they are going to get better attention instead of a bunch of seniors and not enough staff. The ratio was pretty good. They have a therapy room and a chapel. I saw the rehab part of it. They have a seating area for lunches or dinners for them to eat, and they have a little spot outside so they could go and get some sun.

Bethesda Home and Retirement Center is an older facility tucked away on a quiet street on Chicago's northwest side. I really liked it. The storied brick building with an awning in the front seemed stately and inside is this beautiful dark wood paneling. I loved the building. It reminds me of an old fashioned resort that I used to go to as a kid and I have good memories. Bethesda Home was very clean and I did not smell any bad odors anywhere in the rooms or the hallways. While this facility may not have all the bells and whistles that a newer one would (I didn't see any flat screen TVs for example), the nursing home has lovely and comfortable furnishings and art work on the wall. There is nothing lavish about the dining room, but the residents seemed comfortable. I will say that the food that I observed looked decent and even appealing. My friend who I was visiting that day was happily eating her beets and was being assisted by a very patient nursing aide. The lobby had nice furnishings and there was a little enclosed sitting area as well as a snack shop on the first floor. What struck me in particular was that the place was quiet and rather peaceful, unlike many hospital and nursing home settings which can have a lot of foot traffic and a lot of noise. According to a Chicago Tribune article, Bethesda has "embraced' a culture change in the last couple of years which lets residents make decisions such as when to bathe, eat and sleep. Bethesda Home certainly didn't seem like an "institution" to me and I would recommend it.

A very good friend and former neighbor of mine has been a resident for years. I visit him every chance I get and I love spending time with him. My most recent visit was probably last month when I asked my niece to accompany me. We went to say hello and ended up staying for hours. The staff is friendly and greeted me as always. I packed lunch for myself and my niece and brought in a little something for my friend as well. The staff does not mind that I bring food for him. The staff is laid back, but when my friend calls for them, they are there in a second. I was impressed with that.
