Highland Hills seemed good. Everything was really closer together there, and not as spread out. It seemed like the hallways were a little smaller and closed in. I really liked it and don't have anything bad to say about it. They didn't have as many things available to look at that particular day, I visited though. It was a homier place with rocking chairs outside and a lot of trees and birds and bird feeders. It was a very nice, top-notch facility. They had an apartment on one side and the other side was more like a nursing home and hospice care. It has a continuum of care at one facility.

We visited Highland Hills Village. I like the place, the staff, and the amenities. They just were full, and had a waiting list. I was thinking my husband could be in memory care, and I could be in independent living. They had two dining areas. One was for the assisted, while independent living residents could buy one meal a day there if they wanted to. They had one for memory care. Both of them seemed very nice. I didn't see people eating in the memory care, but I saw people eating in the assisted living area. The food looked good, and they seemed to be enjoying it. I didn't think they had enough cleared outside area for people to sit or walk. They had a long list of activities for the week with a good-variety of things that people could do. They had a van that could take people on shopping trips, and they offered transportation to doctor's appointments.

Overall seemed like a very nice facility. Set up like apartment housing, community wash rooms, dining area etc. My grandparents had their own fairly large apartment with a balcony and decent kitchen. The staff always was very nice when I visited and my grandparents always spoke very highly of them. There were a few instances with unfortunate events dealing with staff, but never seemed like a repeating thing. Management handled bad staff members pretty quickly. I also dealt with many staff members in a professional capacity through my work and was always pleased with our interactions.

Everyone I talked with was very happy with the living conditions. Everyone, residents and workers, was very nice and welcoming. Everything was always clean and looked very nice, not all sterile-looking like a hospital. All the residents had nice apartments inside the facility and the dining area was very nice (and the food I had a few times there was pretty good, too)

I recently visited a family friend at St. Mary's Highland Hills Village in Athens, GA. My friend had a wonderful room all to herself, all her the things that were most important to her, pictures, her favorite books and her most comfortable blanket, were right in her room. They provide her with meals, cable TV and a guest bed for visitors. Her favorite thing to do was to sit on her bed and read while looking out of her window. We went on a walk around the grounds while we were there as well, they were peaceful and well kept. The staff at the front of the facility as well as the ones in the dining room were pleasant and seemed friendly enough. This is definitely a place i would look into for my own grandparents if they should ever need a assisted living provider. They are a trusted name in our town.
