Avery Village is a little more expensive than my sister can afford, but it is much smaller than the other place. I think it's going to be a great place. It's a small place. It's very personable. Everybody seems like they know each other. It is in a small town, so it is easy to get around it. My sister is still mobile, and still drives, and several of them do, so that's good. It's not very far from Walmart and some of the stores that she likes to go to. I would recommend it. I think she's going to like it better because it is smaller and more personable. I ate with my sister a couple of times and their food was good. The rooms are all very nice. They've all been redone. The staff members are very nice. It's like family. People were coming down the hallways, and they would talk to them. People would come up and hug them. So I think I think it's very personable. When you go through the front door, the dining room is to the right, and the activities room is to the left. You don't have to walk very far or anything, so I thought it was very nice. They have arts and crafts. They play trivia. They watch TV and movies and stuff like that. They're pretty new. Somebody has just bought it, so they told them, 'Let us know what you want to do and we'll start doing it.' So with regard to activities, they're very open right now.

We got both of my parents into Avery Village. My dad's in the assisted living and my mom's in memory care. They can have lunch together, visit each other, and see each other. It's a relatively small place, but it's top-notch and I love it. We like the quality of care and the place itself looks happy and clean. They care about their residents and it just exudes care. Also, it smells good. They have chefs that cook their meals and the food is awesome. It is just wonderful. It's not a huge community, but they have activities going on every day, something to keep them busy. Some of the ones that want to sleep all day, they try to keep them up. They have church services, people come and play music, they do painting and karaoke. I met Stephen, the liaison type person. The executive director is phenomenal. She's got 30 years in nursing and all the people there have been there for over a year, some being ten years. It was bought out in March so it's under new management. Mom's all-inclusive (my dad, too). They do their laundry and if you need something special, like a bar of soap and things, we provide it. Like my mom's allergic to stuff, so they clean their rooms for them. They make sure that they get showers twice a week, which is unusual because most places are once a week. They offer haircuts (you had to pay for them) and then the women get manicures one day a week. The activities are phenomenal. They also will take them to doctor's appointments or take them shopping and things like that. It is reasonably priced. They are lower priced than the other ones and they offer more services and more care for their money.

I was in Avery Place for almost a year. The whole facility was a little more rustic. The staff was good and attentive. They served our meals, and they took me to Wal-Mart. They had an exercise room and a library.

Avery Place is the only facility that would keep my husband’s parents together, and my husband’s mother has Alzheimer’s. What made us impressed was that it’s small and it’s closer to our home; it’s an assisted living place with a keypad lock door. The service is above and beyond, and it’s wonderful. It’s a wonderful environment, and for all the patients that they have there, it’s a friendly, homey environment. The size is an asset. They participate in church on Sunday afternoons, she wanted him to be on his side, and this facility is where she can be out of his sight, and they know everybody is watching her like a hawk. She interacts with the other residents there, and it’s good for the state of mind that she is in. We’re really very blessed to have found it.

We visited a room that was well decorated, and that was very nice. The facility is neat and clean enough. The staff was very pleasant. The lady that I spoke to did a fantastic sales job, and that is what I thought I got from them: a sales talk. Overall, it was OK.
