My mother was diagnosed with a terminal and very aggressive cancer just a few weeks ago, she was given at most two months to live. This is shocking and very emotional news to take in but you are not given time to take it in. Once she chose to not treat we were almost immediately given the boot from the hospital and told to find a place for her to go to die. Ybor City was within walking distance of my home and so it was tops on my list for her to go there, site unseen, I put her in there. I am not going to lie, when I walked in with my sisters we did NOT fall in love with the place, it's not where you want to put your parent to die. But what place is? A good friend of ours said "if your mom is comfortable and safe, she will not see what you see". We kept mom there and comfortable and safe is just the beginning of what we got from this home. EVERY SINGLE person that worked in this home loved on my mom and my sister and me. They hugged us, shared stories with us, advocated for my mom, her medicines were never missed, she was cared for in ways hospice cares for your loved ones. Within one week I had met every person that worked there, cafeteria staff, maintenance... and so on. They all are a big community. Most of the staff have been there for almost 20 years or more! That says a lot. I cannot say enough good things about this place. My mom only lived another week and I am so happy that is where she passed. It might not be glamorous but the love is limitless.

Most important thing to know my father was there for three days before I could get him moved to a better facility. First impressions were awful. There was a door to resident hallway wide open when I walked up. My father was admitted to a room next to the entrance and there was general chaos. Be aware that there a large number of 4 person rooms in this facility. My father was put in one of those. The A/C was not working properly so the room was always hot. We were told to bring a fan (which I did) then they put in an industrial floor drying fan which made the room even noisier. Food was ok. Staff was generally pretty good although they were always short staffed. For example the last night there was one nurse for two wings plus she was answering the door/ letting people out because the receptionist was out.

The rooms are nice and enviromental folks do a great job keeping these rooms clean for the nice people that stay here for one reason or another. No poop smell here ! Most of the staff are nice , but some can b a little snippy For the most they are hard working people and some have been here a long time .My is off to them ! Really anything during this pandemic there not allowed out in public much other than dr . visits .they do have bingo some times and there is a deck out back with a couple vending machines so they get fresh air if they like ! Not sure have not been to long I am REHABING from neuro surgery its a slow climb but there has been improvements thank you Therapy WAY TO GO EVERYONE ! TW

The first thing I noticed when I pulled up was I had to park on the narrow street. There was vary little spaces available to park. The outside of the facility was fairly attractive with it's red brick look. When I first walked in through the doors, I noticed a strong unpleasant odor. I arrived shortly after breakfast and I noticed the dinning room was almost empty, tables not cleared, and several residents were left sitting waiting for someone to assist them to their rooms. I was able to look inside some of the rooms and they were fairly small and cramped. The interior was not a bright cheerful look. I noticed there were a couple of staff on duty but it seemed to me they were short on staff. I was able to sit with a few of the residents in the hallway and they appeared to be happy to have a visitor. I was unable to see any listing of activities and the common room was fairly small. Ybor City Healthcare was located in a fairly quite neighborhood without a lot of loud traffic. It is close to shops and restaurants.
