I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is still at Wickshire Tamarac. It is a beautiful place. It's a five-star place. They have a lot of activities. They have a la carte meals. They take care of cleaning it. My mom and her best friend met when they were 8, and they're both 91. And they're in the same apartment. It's a two-bedroom-two-bathroom little place. The staff is super friendly, super helpful, and very caring. They have a lot of activities like bingo, Bible reading, and karaoke, and they have a guy who plays guitar for them once a week. They even have happy hours on Fridays. They celebrate Thanksgiving, Veteran's Day, and 4th of July. They always have those themed celebrations. It's a little expensive, but you get what you pay for.

The restaurant at Wickshire Tamarac was very good. The place was clean. The only thing was that the staff wasn't always available and that's the only problem I had. The food was very good. There were too many people in wheelchairs there and I found that depressing. The sizes of the rooms were adequate.

The people at Wickshire Tamarac speak a little Spanish, so my father feels comfortable there and they take care of him well. He has a small apartment with a full kitchen, a living room, a dining room, and a bedroom. They have to do everything for him, because he's 106, so they have to help him and they're always looking after him. They take him out to exercise and to a lot of stuff even though he says "Don't do everything." He has three meals and he has a few friends over there already and he talks to them. It's also easy to talk to the people, like the nurses, about him and we could ask questions. Sometimes we tell them that he doesn't feel this way or that way because of his age, and they take care of that. They put him to bed, gave him a bath, and dressed him up. He tells me everything and he says he was pampered. He's happy there. I have had lunch and dinner there. I didn't have time to do the breakfast, but I had someone else who was with my father for a little bit looking after him, and she said the breakfast was very good. They have a lot of options, as well for lunch and dinner. They have a menu for the day, but if you don't like anything from that, they always have something there that you could ask for. They give you soup, salad, and meat. Everything was delicious. I had fish, pork, and a tuna salad. I've been there a few times and my husband, too, and the food was very good. The dessert was also good and they give you a coffee or tea or a juice to pick from. They always have water there. So, they have options. The facility is very clean and spacious. The halls are wide. The entrance is good. I went to the second floor which has a lot of things to do, and I like it. It's very comfortable. You could listen to music and they have lots of activities. They have exercise, games, bingo, cards, painting, puzzles, and a reading place. They have a room to go in and see a mass or religious stuff or do meditation. They have a big living room with a TV. Then you go outside, you could sit there and see the patio. They have a little bridge so you can walk around between the plants. They have nice chairs to make them feel comfortable, and there's a lot of entertainment. People might think it is expensive, but for what I pay and for what my father gets, I think the value of the money is good. Because of his age, we ask a lot, and they give it to him and he likes it. It was kind of rough at the beginning because he has always lived in this old house, and that's why I picked something that was big enough to put his furniture in. He has his TV there and everything (I am trying to get a phone for him right now, because there are no more lines in there, there's a lot of people), and it is worth it. They have lectures and different things for them to listen to, which is good. I went to a lot of places, and when I took my father to this place, he said he liked this one because he is on the first floor so it's not far when he goes from his room to the dining room, and at least he walks, which is good for him. The people in the dining room are Spanish and they ask him if he's okay. The people at the front desk and the directors also speak Spanish. So, there's always somebody that he could talk to in case of anything. They have called me immediately if he doesn't feel good. So, there's good communication. The nurses are very kind and nice. They do the laundry for him. They do everything for him.

I moved into Wickshire Tamarac. I like the fact that I don't have to cook, and they have people that come in and make my bed. The whole place looks good and well kept up. We have transportation, a salon, and a little park out in the back where we can sit. The staff here has been caring.

My sister has moved into Wickshire Tamarac. We like it because you feel like you are family and friends, not like each person is an individual. There's always somebody saying, "Hello, how are you?", "You want to go play keno?", "You want to go play bingo?" There's always somebody that is asking you if you want to go here or there. It's a very friendly, smaller place, but it's cozy. I know that the aide that takes care of my sister is very good. They probably need more aides, but my sister is okay with them. They have a lot of activities all day, and that includes the staff taking care of the activities. My sister loves the food, I've never heard her sister talk about a place where she enjoys the food, and they have a variety. The facility is very easy to get around. They have all kinds of activities. They have bingo, Jeopardy, and Family Feud. They have arts and crafts, which are unbelievable and extremely creative. They have people coming in and doing little concerts, and also singing karaoke. They have everything there, but it’s a smaller scale; it's not humungous. They also have a program set up where they give you the medicine which I'm paying extra for. You do get a lot for the money you're paying, but it's not a cheap place, so you're paying for what you're getting. It's a very lovely place, it's not depressing.

Wickshire Tamarac is a wonderful place. The staff is wonderful, the food is good, and they have many activities for the senior citizens. I'm very happy that my mother is there. They're always having parties, as well as arts and crafts activities, outings, memory games, bingo, card games, music, a library, a salon, and religious services.

It was excellent. The administrator was so, so sweet. She was friendly, she was thorough, and she was welcoming. I felt like she was family. The inside was so clean, but we were not able to go to the rooms. He said that they had a lot of recreation options for the elderly. They would take them to the park, outside to do barbecues, to go fishing, and to play games. I think they had a gym where you could work out. I liked the location. It's close to my home, and I could just pop over really quickly and visit with my dad.

My father passed away recently less than one month shy of 96. This last year of his life that he spent at Wickshire Tamarac was one of his happiest...despite his own health challenges and a raging pandemic. Members of the greatest generation have that fantastic "can do" attitude. I wish to thank Wilkshire Tamarac on behalf of my family for the tidal wave of love and sympathy you have shown us. It has lifted us and comforted us in ways you will never know. This past year at Wickshire gave my father a free, full and happy life. In January 2020 after a few days of serious convincing, my father moved to an airy, bright two bedroom apartment with a huge balcony. He thrived there. He was loved and had so many friends---residents and staff alike. He proudly wore his Marine hat there and anywhere he went. Some highlights: He would give out $50 parking tickets to the nurses for blocking the hallway with their medicine cart and if they didn’t pay he said "the cops were going to arrest you"….they loved it! He would take a “sup” of wine during happy hour in the doorway, and would wear funny hats and glasses; He spent many hours at his game table. He even taught his aide to play roulette and craps---he did such a good job she sometimes beat us! The competition was fierce. He loved dancing, singing and listening to music. Even when he was in a wheelchair we would dance during music appreciation. He would often look for his friends who liked to sing. When he found them he would be the orchestra leader as they sang Americana music like “G-d Bless America”, “You’re A Grand Old Flag” and “Yankee Doodle.” In February of last year for his 95th birthday, Wickshire threw my father a big birthday party. He took off his Marine Corp hat and put on a birthday hat, had chocolate cake and ice cream and was grinning from ear to ear. I visited my father daily and spent so many hours with him in the garden with his leg propped up on his favorite bench talking about how joyful he was about the life he was living! Daily, I would read him the news from my phone and he would Skype often with our family. He was so happy and engaged during these calls---he loved talking to his other daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The food was great too....there was always a wonderful variety of alternatives to the main course choices if you did not like them whether it was for breakfast, lunch of dinner. The residents of Wickshire Tamarac are there to live and not die. They are wonderful people and even though my father is no longer there, I plan on visiting there as his friends, both residents and staff, are my friends too.

We were not impressed. It was a bit depressing. The assisted living didn't bother us, but it really was obvious that everybody there needed assisted living. The rooms were okay, but not great. There were a lot of people sitting around, but the woman who showed us around was very nice. It was a clean facility.

This is a beautiful facility. The apartments are very nice and spacious. They have a dining area or room service. Activities, tv room, card games and more. Everyone is friendly and active. A little bit pricey but seems to be worth it. I would highly recommend this place.

It was very nice. The rooms and dining room were nice, and the food was excellent, but it's just too much money. The staff was very polite, and the CNAs I talked to were nice. I talked to the people in the dining room and the waiters, and it seemed like they took good care of their customers. The housekeepers I talked to were nice and very efficient. The grounds were beautiful and the pool was very nice. If the price was lower, I'd be out there every day.

It impressed me the most. I chose it because of the limited number of residents, the cleanliness, and especially the brightness. It’s not a dingy place, but well-lit. My wife moved in last December 2014. The staff was good. My wife does not participate in anything, but they have singing, and mind games. She loves the food, the rooms are very nice, well-maintained, and the cleaning staff are there every day. This is the perfect place for her.

First of all, thank you to Joan from Caring.com for her assistance with providing information for us to begin our search for a place for our mom. Our mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in December of 2011. She lived between my sister's home and ours for the last three years. Mom had declined pretty rapidly to the point where we had to make the most difficult decision, to find a facility specifically for people with Alzheimer's . She has only been there a month, but we feel she is getting the 24 hour care and supervision we could no longer give her. We visit her many times throughout the week . The staff is wonderful so far. Ryan helped us through the initial phase. Now , Gita has taken us under her wing. Mom is always clean... her room is spotless... and there are always plenty of staff watching over all of the residents . Knowing mom is well taken care of when we aren't with her, has made this whole transition easier for us. Making the decision where to place a parent when you can no longer care for them yourself , is the most difficult thing to do. I pray for her and for God to keep watch over her when we are not there. Hope this review helps.

I went for my dad. I like the place. The apartments looked good. The facility was OK for an older person who wants to live by himself but with some help. The dining room looked good. Everybody was sharing. I like it. They also have a TV area where they can see movies and a recreational area where they can play cards. The facts that the people can live with their privacy and with help at the same time are what impressed me most about this community. However, for people who cannot stand up, they should put a lifter insider their rooms/apartments; they didn't have it, and they won't allow it.

My mother-in-law is here and it is very good. She seems to be very happy there, and they seem to be on top of things. They have quite a few activities. I know she does arts and crafts and bingo. She goes to exercise classes. There’s another part where they have discussions to see how they’re doing, kind of like a support group. She’s never in her room ever, so she must love everything that’s going on there. The staff is very friendly. As soon as you walk in, they seem to know who you belong to. You don’t smell the urine. It doesn’t seem like it’s like a place that you would just dump your loved one and forget about them. The décor is very uplifting. It’s almost like a hotel when you walk in. They have dining from 7:30 in the morning till 6 at night. They get 3 meals a day. She’s had one meal that she didn’t like, and she has been there 3 months. The dining area looked welcoming; they had tablecloths on the tables. I was very impressed with the place.

The marketing man was very well prepared and responsive to my questions. He took me on a thorough tour, and the facility appeared clean with a more homey setting. The rooms felt a little more institutional in terms of assisted living. When I was there, they weren't doing any activities, but I saw a setup for movie night with a popcorn machine, and I saw a room setup for chair exercises. I saw the dining area, but I have not eaten there. It is a more casual restaurant style. I like that it had a communal living room. I saw many residents relaxing and socializing in that room. I also like that they had a large screened in porch with rocking chairs for people to enjoy the fresh air. I would say that it could be a four for an individual, but I'm not sure a couple would be comfortable there. It was less comfortable for a couple because of the way the rooms were designed.

It looked very clean. I visited this place for my mom. The people were friendly. The lobby was a little bit crowded though. However, the way they furnished the apartments were really good and that was attractive for us. Having the facility provide the furniture, it was a big feature for use. The personnel were very friendly and open. They showed me the activities they have in store. They have crafts and clays. They have a place where they can watch movies and everything was really well set up. The dining area looked excellent. I didn't have a chance to eat but I saw what they were serving and people were enjoying it. It looked like you're walking into Olive Garden, so it was really nice. The choices that they have for food were really appealing.

I visited for my mom. They were incredible. They had an apartment ready for the residents. It was just that at the last minute my mom got sick. We were ready to move in. Food was good. And what was nice about that, they were open from 8 am to 6 pm and they could go eat anytime they wanted to. What I like best about this facility was that it didn't seem like a nursing home. The people were very positive and very active. People would be very blessed to live there.

The first visit was good. But the second visit we had, I had some more specific questions about medical care. The person who was meeting with me, I didn't know if she was new or she just didn't have a lot of information, but she wasn't actually receptive to the questions. So I didn't really get a great feeling that second time around. But the rooms were very nice. It was a nice size apartment and was less expensive. I think they could improve on the care. They just didn't seem as receptive or immediately responsive at the medical or the care of the people living there.

Right now, my father-in-law is not there because he is in a rehab facility, but he was in the men's club, and he was saying that they had poker. The neighborhood is OK, the place is clean, and the grounds are kept. Their rooms are closer to an apartment than just a room, and that made a big difference for me.

It was very nice as far as how they had the dining set up and the rooms. It was clean and a little older. There’s not a lot of space outside to move around; they don’t have that large piece of property. There was security at the front desk; they had a therapy area. There was no pool and not a lot of outside patio area, so those were the things that were missing.

My parents are very happy with it. I’ve eaten there a couple of times. The food is very good. The wait staff is excellent. On Saturday and Sunday nights, they have entertainment whether it’s a singer, piano player, or something. They have exercise class everyday. Sundays, they have painting class. They have town hall meetings, woman’s club, and veteran’s club.

My mom moved in just last end of July. The place is really nice. The people there are very nice. The activity director knows everybody by names. They have lot of community events. She tries to make sure everybody is always busy. They have a great menu that they can choose from and they don't have time sitting. You can eat there whatever time you want. And also whenever a resident is hungry, they just call them up and they can take the food to the room or they can go down. Their chef has been there for almost 13 years. The facility is mostly independent living with some assistance like bathing. It cost me just a base price for her studio apartment and then I added on the beauty parlor. I gave them my credit card and what my mom has to do is go and sign. So whenever she wants a manicure or her hair done, she does not have to worry about money. She needs assistance bathing and they do go by and do nightly checks. There's also a hospital across the street which is great. I'm really happy with the place. It's clean. It's bright. They also have a welcoming committee whenever there is a new resident. They try to make the person feel at home because it's a major transition.

Some of the staff are very nice and loving but others seem to have a chip on their shoulders. One thing I can complain about this place is that I can't understand some of the nurse's aides. It seems that most of them are not from this country. My mother had a hearing difficulty and it's already hard enough for her to understand, so this is a disadvantage for her.
