I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom had to move here temporarily to get her Medicaid approved. Everything was fine through the admissions process, but after that it went downhill. I live out of town so I'm sure that was to their advantage. My mom memory issues, which was known when she moved in. Her specific care needs were discussed. Was told she would be taken down for activities each day and after she moved in was told that she could not take part unless she could get herself to the activity area. She is not sure how to use the phone they had in her room, so I would call in hopes that someone would be in there to pick it up for her. When I got there to visit the phone had been completely taken out of her room. When I came to move her out her hair looked like it had not been washed since I brought her there and the toothbrush I bought two months prior had not even been opened for use. They lost all of her clothes, pillows, blanket that she came with other than the one mismatched outfit she had on when I arrived and two other shirts. I am still battling to get reimbursement for her personal belongings and was getting some communication on it, but that has stopped. No quality of life at all and very neglectful.

Anna was amazing at getting both my mother and father settled at Magnolia. She went above and beyond to make sure we comfortable with what was happening and explained everything to us over and over so that we understood. The staff is very friendly. They know their patients and are always willing to help. We know our parents are in the best care and are so thankful to all staff.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother-in-law was admitted after his condition improved in a hospice facility making him eligible for health and rehab. After reading positive reviews and viewing the Magnolia, it was decided this was the best place for him. Before moving him to Magnolia, they insisted that he pay $11,000 upfront covering his first month. While I'll admit his prognosis was not good, his condition quickly declined at Magnolia. The decline was quick and puzzling. After talking to his hospice nurse (not a Magnolia nurse) that followed him from the first facility (and checked on him often) she discovered the medication that she had in place when he first arrived there - had but stopped or forgotten. He had heart issues and lived on diuretics to keep from suffocating or drowning in his own fluid. After 3 days without the medication, he passed away. Every day that I called I asked to talk to his nurses. I questioned his decline and they told me he was fine. I stated that he was having intense breathing issues. I asked her if his bed was elevated etc. - to which she responding no. I am not a nurse but that seems insane to me. Long story short - he died only after a brief stay at Magnolia. The medication that kept him from drowning not given and laying flat on his bed to drown while in their care! I cannot get that picture out of my mind! Yes, he was very sick, but the neglect is unconscionable. It will not bring back our beloved family member - but I want other families to know when considering places to trust the care of their loved ones. Had I read this review - perhaps I would have reconsidered our decision!

This not a place for someone who truly not well. They are understaffed, they don't have the right nursing care. Check how many registered nursed are available for your loved one. You might want to hire a private nurse to stay with your loved one.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Perhaps you can now contact some of the residents who have been to this facility & learn the truth. My 51 year old sister just spent a nightmarish hell night in this place. Thank God she does not have any issues that affect her ability to think & speak. She has had 4 surgeries within 2 months & is legally blind. She was there for approximately 20 hours without any medicine. She is on a strict regiment of antibiotics due to an infection she got in the hospital after the first surgery. She received no pain medications & was refused a bag of ice for her swollen arm because they claimed it wasn't in the Dr's orders. She was told her medicine would be delivered by a pharmacy truck between 1am & 3am. 4am came & she struggled to find someone to ask about her medicines. She was told her medicines were not on the delivery truck. She asked to return to the hospital & then was told her medicines were there and would checked & given to her. Next she was told again her medicines were not there, yet the nurse presented an IV bag of something she said was 1 dose of her antibiotic. The nurse hooked the bag to her PICC line. After the medicine finished the alarm sounded for 45 minutes with no response from anyone. My sister turned the alarm off herself, unhooked the medicine bag, flushed the line with a solution the nurse left in the room, capped her PICC line & promptly left with a friend she had called. She went straight to her Dr's office. People deserve to know the truth about a facility before agreeing to go to one.

My friend was at Magnolia for 2 weeks for second time in 3 years. She didn't want to be back there but it was the only facility with a private room at the time. I want to thanks all staff because you are doing a great job. This place is not what used to be. Clean, food is acceptable, great customer service and most of staff is caring. Nothing like it was before.

Other

please do not tip patients upside down to change them in a chair instead of properly changing them in a bed. Also, please toilet your patients and do not let them beg to go to the toilet.
