I have visited and worked at Mease Continuing Care in the Skilled nursing unit for 2 short months. In this period of time I have experienced what this section of the facility was all about. Let me begin with the positive aspects of Mease Continuing Care:Staff really connect with their patients. From nurses to housekeeping, everyone seems to have some type of a friendly and caring relationship with a patient. There were many activities available for the patients from day trips to puppy visits. The patients were really encouraged to join in the fun.Food was great. The are offered many options and are allowed to make special requests for foods.Facility was neat and free of dangers, i.e, water on floors, free wires, unlocked doors, objects blocking hallways, and so on. The facility had many in house services for the patients, i.e, a store, bueaty shops, doctor and dentist inroom visits, restoritive dining, chapel with religous services, library, theater, and physical therapy. The facility had a wonderful resort like feel to it. Staff seem to always have a smile on there face and pay lots of attention to the patients. The admin has a cute white pomeranian that is always in the facility which brings much joy to the patients when they see him.All patients are on wander gaurds and chair/bed alarms so nursing staff always now where the patients are. Facility allowed 24hr guest visits and allowed them to help in their loved ones care, i.e changing, dressing, feeding. Finally, it is located in the same parking lot as the hospital. Now to the cons:Price was very steep. It is a very exspensive facility. The director of nursing and the admin never seemed to be happy or smiling. They seemed VERY understaffed. So there were times staff could not give that extra special attention most patients longed for.Parking seemed limited for guests. For the patients that dont receive visitors often or at all seemed to be forgotten on their birthdays. Yes the facility ties balloons to their wheelchairs or walkers I think a nice singing of happy birthday and a cake or appropriate dessert would add a special touch. SMALL rooms unless they could afford the private rooms. Hard to get wheelchairs through in most rooms.Overall, I believe this is a great facility for a loved one. I just feel they need to focus on the little things more becuase sometimes the little things are worth more to the patients and their families.
