My father was in Discovery Commons for about 18 months and a few months after his passing, my mom was there for 4 1/2 months. She was thriving there and passed away suddenly so didn't get to enjoy it nearly as long as we'd hoped. She had been alone in their house, and it was great for her to have her meals fixed and room cleaned, participate in activities, plus take up bridge again and have people to socialize with. The staff there were always friendly, pleasant, helpful, and caring. One of the things that most impressed us when we first visited to check it out was how long some of the employees had been there. (yes, there's turnover, but many have been there several years). I stop by to drop off magazines and many of those staff members are still there. We also loved the small size and homey atmosphere, as well as the delightful setting in the trees and nice big porches. One of the big plusses for my dad (dementia) was that they had the Memory Care unit where he could've been moved to, if it became necessary. I would recommend this facility to anyone who needed this type of care.

Reflections Alzheimer's and Memory Care
Dedication to Service
Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or other memory impairments is a very personal, loving dedication to service. It requires service for specific and individual needs.
More often, the resident with memory loss needs assistance with life's daily activities including personal care but may not have an acute medical condition requiring around the clock skilled nursing or instruction. Finding that unique combination of physical setting and specialized care is a journey traveled by many families.
The Reflections Program
At Reflections, our trained staff works closely with family members and friends to assemble a "Life History" identifying the personal experiences of each resident's life.
Through the “Life History,” we get to know the personality behind the person, fostering a one-to-one association more like "friend to friend" rather than "staff to patient." Details and events from your loved one's past become "shared" memories and experiences serving as a foundation for activities, communication and the development of friendships built on support, understanding and mutual respect.

My mom moved into Discovery Commons At Bradenton. It feels like a home instead of an assisted living facility. The staff is incredibly kind, fun, attentive, and efficient. My mom has a single room with a bathroom. It's very large and spacious with big windows. It's very clean. They have a large family room. Often, somebody is playing the piano in the family room. They had a dining area and outside porches that were pretty. It's in a wooded area, so it's a very calming area. They always have an activity in the morning, and then they have one in the afternoon. They do a craft. They have bingo, go out and do nature walks. They get on the bus and go for a ride out to the beach. So they always have at least two or three activities every day that people can join in.

Beautiful setting in the woods. Charming and quiet location. Our particular room was not cleaned properly or often. Ants, dirt and dirty towels. Theft occurred. Head nurse and manager lied as well as, sugar coated resident issues or did not tell the truth about resident interactions. Poor communication regarding anxieties or issues regarding level of dementia. Medication was not given properly or withheld. There was unprofessionalism with some employees who did not know how to communicate well to our resident's family or even how to answer the phone. Several untrained staff members. Many caring and professional staff leave because of low pay or lack of quality management. Staff does not consistently work in the Memory Care Unit so there is no consistency for your loved one, which makes it confusing to your parent. Make sure you come every day and protect your loved one at this facility and help manage your parents medication, hygiene and care. Covid gives a place like this too much free rein.

Windsor Oaks is a great blessing to my Mother and our whole family. My mom is so happy and engaged in wonderful positive activities. ! She has all her things in her private room and can have as much free time as possible ! She doesn’t want to miss a thing !!! It’s fun ! Food great. Activities fun and family members welcome. ! It’s truly like she lives at home but is never lonely. Thank you Bev for your leadership. Everyone who works there is great !

I visited Windsor Oaks & felt it was too small so we placed our Mother in a large community. What a mistake! She never came out of her room for fear of getting lost. She didn't know the staff and declined before our eyes. We made the decision to move her to Windsor Oaks & could not be happier. She is social now, loves the staff, & refers to it as her home.

Our mother was at Windsor 2 years ago. They did not care for her. She had ants in her room, and we used to take the trash out every time we visit. For what she pays for, it was not a very nice at all. The people seemed OK, but when they say she needs to go to the doctor, she always has to find somebody to take her out because there are none in that area. This was not really the place for her.

Windsor Oaks was clean and the people seemed very happy. They were playing Bingo or sleeping at that time of our visit. The staff were friendly. Some rooms were like a hotel room and I was surprised.

Windsor Oaks was probably the nicest and the best maintained. It's very small and intimate. It has the largest restrooms, too. The staff was friendly, and they also have been there for a long time. They're very caring. It's a first-name basis with all of the residents, and they probably seem to know the residents better than any place else because of the ratio, and it's such a smaller unit. The food was pretty disappointing. It would also would look better with some different lighting. It's a nice, very homey atmosphere, but the fluorescent lights kind of killed the look of it. It doesn't help the presentation of the food. There's a lot of older than average residents and folks who needed more assistance, and it just looked much more like a hospital setting as a result of the bright light and the kind of institutional food. I really liked the small setting and, as a result, much more intimate care between the residents. Everybody really knew everybody.

Windsor Oaks was a very nice facility. It is in a beautiful setting. It is in the woods and it is completely surrounded with pine trees. It did have a very comfortable cottage-type setting, like cottages in the woods. Inside, they even have a grand piano in the foyer. Their admission person has been there for a long time. However, the facility was very small and it was not a good fit for my mother.

I liked everything at Windsor Oaks of Bradenton and it was very nice. It looked well-run. They had the memory care unit separate from the others. The only thing that bothered me was if the weather is bad and they brought my husband back and forth for the activities which was outside. It was also the most expensive facility that I visited.

The nurses at this facility were very intelligent and quick to answer any questions you had about your loved ones care. The facility always looked very clean and well maintained. Meals always looked nutrition and the staff was always very polite. They provided quite a few things for residents but I wish they could have been more proactive in having those residents who were anti social become a part of the social interactions going on. Especially those who didn't have family near by to visit. The head nurse was always very polite and seemed very knowledgeable about all of the residents and could answer any questions that you asked, this was very reassuring. As with any facility there were nurses who lacked in people skills and I think a class in how to approach family members of the residents could go a long way to improve the public view of such living facilities.

I wanted a description of this facility. I am so pleased that it is MUCH freer and less confining than a nursing home my friend used to live in and where I volunteered. From now on I will visit her at Windsor Oaks and volunteer there! I like to play the piano and sing, and Lu likes to sit beside me and sing alto. I usually sing alto, but with her I sing soprano! I didn't see a piano there, but we will figure something out!
