We chose Heartland Health Care Center-Boynton Beach for my husband, because of the proximity of its location to my home, the cleanliness of the place, and the very knowledgeable and energetic staff. They're very caring and they have good communication with me and my husband. I am just very satisfied. I think any nursing home food needs improvement, but he seems to like the food there. He eats everything. They have daily activities and an activities director. They do puzzles, exercise, entertainment, and play games, but it depends on the resident, as far as how much they want to offer the individual, because of the different levels of Alzheimer's. It's the cleanest place I visited and no matter what time of day I go, it's spotless. I've never seen a problem. The other thing that I noticed about that place that no other place could match is there's never an odor. I've never experienced an odor going there, and I did in every other place I've been.

This is a terrible facility. They overmedicate to restrain patients. They do not feed patients whom need help. There are no activities as posted on their schedules. They have no expertise with dementia as they claim. Staff was observed making fun of patients and giving them pills to keep them quiet. They know nothing about the patient's condition which impedes any progress. A complaint has been made to the state to back up these allegations. Look for a better facility if you care about the person being placed here. Administration is unprofessional and tries to intimidate with threats of removal.

It has been a really bad situation, but Heartland was a really nice place. My mother has been in a few different places, and it's been the best in nursing and cleanliness; they were good to her. I would recommend that to somebody that needed to go there. Everything looked good except the food. The cleanliness, taking care of the clothes, the staff, the social worker, the registration people, the people helping me try to switch insurance from one to the other -- they were very good. They didn't have a lot of activities though. The magnitude of the people in that facility isn't really up for playing bingo. What I liked best is the care. My mom is not even there, and they still care. She started out in a private room, and then they moved her to where she had someone in her room.

Heartland is highly recommended by two social workers and my daughter and I went to check it out. It's basically a rehab nursing facility with a dementia facility. I like everything about them. The care my husband is getting is almost like a one on one care. After a week, I had an evaluation on him and talked to the nutritionist, the psychologist and four other people about his daily activities. I told them I was very happy.
