The lack of care & caring at Southington Care Center short term rehab was deplorable. The patient was unable to move unaided, but had dementia & continued to attempt to stand & walk without help. Despite this, the nurses refused to allow a bed or chair alarm (which patient had been using successfully when at home). They did not provide any other safety precautions & the patient ended up falling down & dying as a result of the neglect. The facility never reached out to the family in any way after the accident or death of their patient. They should be renamed "Southington Uncaring Center".

During my visit I witnessed numerous employee/resident interactions that gave me a great impression of the staff at Southington Care Center. Even my tour guide, who does not have daily face time with residents, greeted each person by name, a pat on the arm, and a friendly smile. In addition to spacious patient rooms, there are numerous common areas for residents to utilize. A brand new recreation room has comfortable, living room-like seating, a large flat-screen television, a Wii gaming system, and other amenities. There is a large refrigerator and cupboards where residents can access snacks at any time. I was extremely impressed by both the quality of the facility, the vast array of choices and amenities offered to residents, and the kind and caring staff. If the need ever arose, I would feel confident a family member would receive quality care at this facility.

Staff was friendly as far as I knew but took a while to respond to calls. Food is mush for people who need it but also for the people who don't. Patients only got a shower once a week cuz not enough staff. Not a whole lot of activities other than bingo. We actually got in trouble for playing the piano for my gramma. They said it disrupted some of the other patients.
