My aunt is currently in Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center for short-term rehab. I know a lot about the place because my uncle was there several years ago, as well as a lot of our family members, and the nursing staff was spot on. My uncle even loved the food, and they responded to anything. Even now with my aunt, whenever I call them, they call me back within that day. I'm going to be having a phone conference on Wednesday, so they keep me abreast of everything every week. They also keep her very clean. Her nails are done and she loves her aides. The staff is very receptive, very caring, very kind, and treats their residents with dignity and compassion. The facility is very clean too. Medicare is paying for it now because she's in short-term rehab, but I think we get the value for the money because they are providing a lot of care with occupational and physical therapy.

Candlewood valley used to be the best nursing home in the area but that is not true anymore! I don't know why such a great place has gone downhill so fast but it has. I think the new management team is what is driving the place into the ground. They just don't care about the patients or the employees who work so hard to care for them. They only care about the bottom dollar. If you put your family member there they won't have enough personnel on the floor to meet their needs. They will wait for hours in a wet diaper before they can be cleaned up while the nurses and aids run around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to keep up. I believe they are doing the best they can but they are human and can only work so fast. I tried to complain to the nurse supervisor one night I was visiting but she just gave me a blank stare and offered no help or solution. I think there is something wrong with her. And If you try to complain to upper management or the social worker good luck! You will be lucky to get a response. I am a lifelong resident of New Milford and I have had many friends and family members stay here over the years. Sadly, it is not what it used to be. I would not recommend you place your loved one here. My mom is going to need to go to rehab soon after scheduled knee surgery and I am looking into other places because I will not put her there.
very disappointed

My Father was there and overall it is a wonderful place. The staff is great and the rehab staff was awesome. Food was better than expected and everyone was so accommodating except for the nurse on the rehab unit. Nurse Lori was less than pleasant and was constantly arguing with the patients and talking to them in a demeaning manner. No empathy at all to my family and was more concerned with "chatting" with staff members instead of taking care of the patients.

The food was good, the aides were good. Clothing is habitually missing even though marked with patients' names and rooms. The excuse is the laundry staff does not speak English. Most importantly - It is impossible for the patient and family to get information from the nurses - when they are even available, they are rude and dismissive. Simple questions and requests about patient's condition, expected visits by doctor, treatment go unanswered. They do not listen to what you are asking.

I'm am so I pressed with the level of care since moving my mom here. She seems happier and looks so much better since moving her to Candlewood Valley in February. The staff call me and tell me when there is a concern or she has had a check up to let me know how she is doing. When things started going crazy due to Covid 19 they closed to family visiting before the state required it. They started the video chats before the state announced they could do this. I have recieved weekly emails updating me on how things are at the facility. They have not had any Covid casesbor deaths. The state and guard came in to test everyone and the facility recieved a clean bill of health!!

Candlewood Valley Health And Rehab is a very well-managed place. It didn't seem like a nursing home; it seemed more upbeat and positive. No one was crying or screaming, and everybody looked very content and happy. The crew that worked there was fabulous, so I was so taken back. The food is fabulous, and the condition of the building is really in good shape. They try to make it more homey there. The rooms were well put-together and has a personal touch, so I was really happy. The beds looked new, and they had taken all the carpets out, so now there's no carpet in the building and that makes it smell very good. They also have activities, like a lot of different art activities, bingo, and things like that. People come in and play the piano, and they get together to sing. It seemed like a home, not a nursing home, since it's not bleak or sad. Everybody smiles. They were having lunch when we were there, and the food smelled and looked fabulous, and everyone was eating. It was really nice. The community is located in a very beautiful part of Connecticut right across from a physician's building. They had courtyards with bird feeders so that in the spring, summer, and fall you can go out. It was really pleasant.

My mom is in Candlewood. I find the staff to be very caring and give a lot of attention to details. It is a little bit run down and a little bit older, but I think that shall not be a detraction because the staff is excellent. I think the amenities are adequate. In my case, I am looking for security with a door locking system. I find that to be very convenient in the way they can be accessible to loved ones to enter, and very secure for an Alzheimer's patient.

My father-in-law has moved into a nursing home -- Candlewood Valley Health and Rehab Center. He's got a lot of mobility problems, and he is going to be there for the rest of his life probably. He is in the dementia unit, and I can't praise his nurses enough. They are patient, caring, and attentive. We have been very pleased, and we feel like he is in very good hands. I don't know about any other rooms, but he is in a double, and he has a roommate; it is kind of like a hospital. There is a curtain in-between, everybody has a closet and a dresser, we brought a television in and an end table, and he actually has a window to the outside -- a sliding door that doesn't really open -- but it is perfect for him because he has a recliner that we brought from his apartment and a wheelchair, so he pretty much goes from the recliner to the wheelchair. They are not huge, but for him there is more than enough space because he doesn't use any space, so it's fine. He's not a big participator, but I see activities going on. When you walk in, it seems like there is a lot going on, but he prefers to be in his room and get his meals in his room. He is really more of a TV watcher than a social person. He doesn't complain about the food; I've never tasted it, but it seems fine and it looks good.

My husband stayed at Candlewood Valley for one and a half years. It was wonderful, spotless, and there was never an odor. They were constantly cleaning and shampooing the rugs. They were a designated 5-star facility. After my husband died, I even wrote to the newspaper to print that they definitely deserved the 5-star rating. The welcome, the care, and the treatment from all the staff was excellent. They were very caring and helpful. They were quick to jump on any change in blood pressure or oxygen level, and I thought that was great. My husband shared a room, and it was adequate. In my husband's case, he was in a wheelchair and spent very little time in his room. They brought him out to this area around the nurse's station where many of the people who were living there were also brought out. So it was a little family room, and people who were able could interact, and they also saw the comings and goings of the nurse's aides and staff. There were activities for people who were able, like arts and crafts. They provided live entertainment every Thursday, Friday, and any holiday that would come along, like mardi gras. The patients participated. They would dress up, and they were very involved. They had a beautiful dining room with tablecloths and linen napkins, which were changed every meal, for people who could go to the dining room. For people like my husband who had to be watched more carefully in case of choking, they kept them in a room closer to the nurse's station, and there might have been 10 people who ate there. It was like a parlor, and each one would have an aide watching and helping people to eat or just keeping an eye out to see that everybody was being adequately fed.

I was really comfortable visiting my uncle at Candlewood Valley because it had a strong "home" atmosphere rather than a hospital vibe. The furniture and decor was very modern and stylish so it was very pleasing to the eye. Over the course of 2 years I had pretty much seen the entire facility including the administrative offices and I was always impressed with how clean everything always was. The staff was very inviting to family/visitors and had a clearly genuinely warm "friendship" with my uncle, rather than a just seeing him as another business transaction. My uncle was very grateful to us for finding Candlewood Valley for him because he had lived in other facilities that he really hated. There's nothing really negative to say about Candlewood, but I would have liked to see more diverse schedule of activities for the residents. They could definitely be more creative in the recreations they offer and perhaps ask the residents what activities they would like to see added. Overall I would rate this as a safe, clean, therapeutic facility that could use some attention in the recreation area.
