The Retreat at Highlands was cold, wasn't colorful, and wasn't inviting at all. I only saw one empty room and it had a shared bath, so it wasn't very acceptable. There weren't curtains at all in the room or in the bathroom. They were covered with bath towels. It gave a very poor impression. The dining room had a big TV in it and small tables. It was not really inviting. The whole atmosphere was cold. The manager was friendly enough. The residents were laying around in the dayroom on the couch watching TV and the rooms were very cluttered.

A great smaller assisted facility. The staff is very positive and upbeat and really do care about the residents. Don't be fooled that facility is older and has character, the environment and community that the staff creates and maintains around your loves ones infinitely more important. Food is all cooked on site and is very good. There is a nice library, grocery store and shopping center all within a short walking distance.

The building itself is a little "tattered", but The Retreat at Highlands located in the quaint City of Wheat Ridge is the ideal place to be for top notch care. My father is a resident of the facility and would agree to a four star review. The staff at The Retreat are very caring as well as very professional. With this review, I would highly recommend The Retreat at Highlands to anyone considering a need for assisted living. Very loving, compassionate, and most of all caring staff at The Retreat.

My mother lived with us after my dad passed away and now needs assisted living. She has lived at the Retreat for 6 months and has had a great experience. I would have moved her into assisted living sooner if I had known how much fun she would have. She is always around people her age and gets to participate in a lot of fun activites. Living in our house she was isolated most of the day when we were at work and school. Now she goes to church, plays bingo and has three good meals a day. She loves the staff and the general manager. I talked to the residents alone before moving my mom in and they all liked the facility.
