I like the staff at Applewood Our House and the small nature of it. The feel is less institutional and more like living at home. It’s just focused on memory care patients, so they all understand and know what to expect in that realm. I didn’t taste the food beforehand, but shortly after, they actually had Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for residents, staff, and families, and I thought it was good. I’ve seen just normal meals for my mother; they’re not gourmet, restaurant-quality meals but are better than some of the meals I’ve seen in other places because they’re only preparing enough for 12 or 15 residents.

Applewood is where my sister is right now, and they have a more right upfront type of security. It is very nice and clean. They have more of a group setting, which is good for people with memory problems. They have a round dining table and large area for most of their games and exercises. They are always in the view of the employees that are there. It is smaller than the place she was before, and it was more personal. They had a beautician that comes in, but they do very few outside social events because of the people who are extremely elderly, handicapped, or have dementia. The security is much better.
