We chose Valley House for my mother-in-law. The location worked for us because it was close right there in Castle Rock. It's a smaller facility with only 25 residents, so we felt she was gonna get the personal attention that she needs right now with her dementia. It was also in our price range. It's a very comfortable looking facility, clean and well-kept. The staff is really friendly. We have no complaints at this point. She's been in quarantine, so she's been in her room, and the staff has just been so nice about stopping by and chatting with her, and bringing her her food. It's an older facility, but it's very well-kept, and they update and clean the rooms when there is turnover. They are very personable, and there was some older flooring in her apartment. Initially, they told us that because of the price, we were not gonna be able to change that flooring, but then they updated it anyway for her. We were able to do an in-person tour with Valley House because of the fact that we waited until all the residents were in their rooms. We did not interface with any residents. It's a much smaller facility, so we were able to do that.

We really like Valley House, I think the staff is awesome, and we're very pleased with the location. The food must be pretty good because my mother-in-law cleans her plate, which was not the case before. Their amenities are very good, and all the staff members we met were very helpful and friendly. So far the residents have been quite nice to talk to and seem to be genuinely caring. It's just a small community with about 22 residents, but they have a lot of activities and things to do. They're so good to her.

Valley House is really nice, and the staff is very professional. It is in a residential area with large trees in a garden. It looks like a home, so it's very homey. It's clean, and we interacted with the residents and talked with the chef. They play bingo, have barbeques and parties, and go on tours.

The staff is very is experienced and there is a low turnover. I saw the same staff members each time I visited. The food was good. The building was clean and always smelled fresh. There were many activites to keep residents active and involved.

This facility, which has 22 rooms, is located in town, but along open space, so it has a country feel that offers privacy. It is quite new construction"”built in the last 15 years or so, and nicely maintained. The outdoor spaces are great, which include a waterfall, fountains and a garden. There is also a playground, which is a unique feature"”and really helps make the place and the whole idea of visiting less intimidating for kids. The food is reputedly very good and varied"”and there is a wide variety of activities appealing to various interests offered to the residents, including offsite outings. The staff is caring and competent, adding to the small town friendly feel of the place. The people who work there seem like they are doing it because their hearts are into it"”and that shines through. Valley House is not set up to give specific memory care, although some people in the early stages do live there. Some rooms share a bath, especially likely for residents who receive Medicaid, but even the smaller rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are equipped with two sinks. Prices start at $2,700 a month for a shared room, but most rooms are bigger and more expensive. -This reviewer, Colleen Chwialkowski, has a degree in Gerontology and has worked in Activities, Marketing and Admissions, and Case Management in various nursing home and assisted living settings.
