I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is at West Valley Post Acute. I understand that the staff gets busy and stuff, but if a patient is not alert like he or she couldn't communicate well whether due to illnesses or because they cannot speak English well, then they should check on the patient more often to make sure that the diaper is clean. In my dad's case, he doesn't speak English well, plus he's got dementia, so he's not able to call a nurse or anyone when he peed or pooped in his diapers, andI told them many times that this was not acceptable. And because he's been in bed for so long, he now has a sore in his back, which should have been prevented if they turned the patient, especially those who are not able to turn by themselves, so they don't lie in one spot for so long. I think it happened in my dad's case where he'd been lying in one position for so long that eventually, it developed a sore. The staff overall has been nice and very helpful though. Due to COVID, they divided the place into two different zones. One is the green zone, and the other one is for newly admitted patients, temporary patients, or patients who did not get vaccinated. So, the green zone is clean and acceptable, but the other zone, where my dad just moved in, has trash on the floor and is not that clean.

I visited this facility

My grandmother was here for 3 weeks and from start to end I was very happy with West Valley. The admission team and social service team are caring, warm, friendly and always willing to help.

I visited this facility

My husband was at West Valley Healthcare Center. Overall, it was a good place for him to be. The staff was very enthusiastic and cheerful. The facility was very clean. They have a good size parking lot, which is helpful when you're visiting.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I have had a relative at this facility for several months now, and I am removing him a.s.a.p. First impression is that it is light, and clean without too much smell of urine. But when a person stays there you can see the nurses/aides do not do their job, and care about or for the patient. My relative has been badly neglected by this facility. I will be making a complaint to the State of Ca. Dept of Public Health. This facility keeps the patient in a dirty diaper for hours, and the same clothes they wore the day before just sleeping in a diaper not putting on their pajamas. If any illness occurs the nurses assigned to the patient do not do anything about it until you see your loved one is ill, and then you have to request for the nurses to address the illness. My relative basically stays in the room or in the hallway on a wheelchair all day without anyone attending to his needs. The Rehabilitation therapy is very minimal with Rehab Aides mostly doing the rehab, and barely helping the patient to get better. The facility has a new administrator, and he is not anyone to complain to. He does NOTHING about your concerns, and he does NOT act professionally in his dealings with relatives. The bottom line is if I knew what I know now, I would NEVER have put my relative into West Valley Healthcare Center. I'm giving you good advice if you love your loved one! STAY AWAY!

I am a friend or relative of resident

i picked this place for my aunt because of their star rating by Medicare, but that was not a good representation of the care. Every time I visited her, she was alone in her room, sitting in a cloth diaper that always seemed like it hasn't been changed. I still don't know why they can't buy regular briefs you throw away, would probably cut down on the smell. I helped her move her to a different modern and super clean facility where She seems happier.

West Valley Healthcare

There are many caring individuals at West Valley Healthcare. The hallways and rooms are kept clean and okay smelling. The administrators act as if they are beaten into maintaining some level of profit at the expense of caring for patients and family. The administrators are extremely difficult to reach, do not return phone calls, and have little compassion or time for helping famly. If you want a faciliity that looks good on top, passes the surficial inspections, but has little substance underneath - this is your place.
