I was at Manorcare Health Services. It was pretty good. They're very clean and they were very careful about not spreading germs. They kept the place clean. The people gave excellent care. The staff was very friendly and very cooperative. I ended up getting a private room, which was very nice. Even the people that came and cleaned the rooms were friendly. It was a good environment. The food was good. If you didn't like what they were serving, they would give you an alternative. They also provided wheelchairs, and for the training, they used equipment that they had there. They had very good occupational therapists. All of that was very good. They had a full calendar of activities. They had movies, bingo, games, and exercise classes. They had people come in to sing or perform, and they cooked. You can have your meal in your room or you can go out to the one of the activity rooms. They had a main dining room; you can always go down there during mealtimes. The staff members were all very friendly.

Dangerous. Understaffed: management is to blame. My elderly parent stayed at Manor Care, at least 2 separate occasions between bouts of time at John Muir, during the Thanksgiving/ Christmas/ New Year season. MC was understaffed which was DANGEROUS b/c my elder was recovering from bypass surgery AND acquired a large bed sore @ JM. The bed sore would often come in contact with fecal matter if the bandages weren't changed at least 3x/ day. MC failed to do this and my elder had to be transferred back to JM with complications from hygienic neglect. It's maddening that JM allowed my elder to go back to MC to "recover." Had to be resourceful and moved my elder to a top notch facility in SJ through personal connections. MC lost my elder's personal belongings between the confusion of moving between JM and MC. No one was held accountable. Also, they failed to rehabilitate my elder - take them out of bed to walk at least 2x a day, as my elder had to learn to walk again. JM did this, but MC let my elder lay in bed with no recovery exercises.

I went to this place around 12:30pm to visit a patient there. Of course no visitor was allowed and I had to call the number as directed on the sign. I called the number and rang the bell and no one answered nor came out until 10 minutes later. It was cold out there. The lady who came to the door later did not say sorry. I wish they are more welcoming and friendly. Too bad. Very disappointed.

ManorCare Walnut Creek is excellent. They did very good physical therapy and were very attentive to our personal needs. I would recommend them.

My father stayed at ManorCare, and it was good. It had the same problem that most skilled nursing facilities have. Their staffing ratio is about fifteen to one. There were a lot of buzzers that were unanswered. That was probably very typical, but it was very clean. He had a nice room, and the food was pretty good. They had a top quality physical therapy. It was a good experience.

I stayed at ManorCare, and it was excellent as it had more machines and more things to do in the therapy department. It was clean, and the rooms were nice. The food was OK.

If I could give this place no stars I would. I had to have an ambulance come and rush my mother to UCSF because she gained 10 pounds of water weight in two weeks. This was due to the staff not providing my mother with a heart healthy diet/low sodium. Then the doctor for almost one week did not change her meds chart with the new meds from her primary care doctor (who did not have privileges). She was close to death by the time I got her out. Lucky for us UCSF was able to bring her back and we found a more suitable place for her.

I would say the staff was horrible. They weren't on top of what was supposed to be happening with another family member that ended up there. So they made a lot of critical mistakes since day one. Overall, they weren't caring. It was more like a business rather than a health care facility. It felt that way to me, very much business-oriented.

The facility is decent but the rehab part seems to get more attention and care than the long term side. They are understaffed and do not have enough people to help feed the residents, often they go hungry. The nurses are great but I think the problem is with administration. They seem to be only concerned about making money and not caring about the patients.

From my visit to this facility I was very impressed. Personally I was there to visit my grandfather who was ill with cancer, but from the looks of it the facility housed many types of residents ranging from those who were there to enjoy retirement in old age, elderly people with symptoms of dementia or Alzheimer's, or terminally ill patients like my grandfather. In other words, there were perfectly healthy people all the way to very sick patients who needed attentive medical care. From what I recall all the service provided was excellent. The nurses were caring and attentive, and the amenities were quite acceptable. Rooms are very big, everything is kept very neat and clean, and there is a nice lounge room for visitors to have a nice conversation in. The meals for the residents see, well balanced and carefully planned out, and they are sensitive to what each resident likes or does not like. Overall, I would say this facility is excellent and would recommend it for any assisted living needs you or your loved ones may have.
