My brother is a resident of Evergreen Residence Assisted Living & Alzheimer's Care. It's relatively small and he seems to be happy there. When he got there, he was restricted to the bed all the time. He is now up and moving with the walker. They're not very large, and they seem to take care of them, and all the employees who have been there for a long time seemed to be fairly dedicated. The dining room is also the activity room. They have daily activities. Each room has its own bathroom, but not showers. The room is fairly roomy and all by himself. They check on him many times a day. The only drawback is the limited finances and we don't know how long we can keep him there. It's a private room.

The personnel were great and friendly and took the time to explain their services. The residents seemed "out of it" and I saw too many residents crammed into a small room watching television. The resident rooms were depressing. I moved my elderly parents into another favility which was more expensive but i felt the social environment was much better.

I visited Evergreen Residence. On the scale of 1 to 5, the personnel would be up in the 4 to 5 area, but the physical building itself would be way down, 2 or 3, I mean, I could smell urine inside when I was in there. When I was there, the residents were outside in the garden area, and it was very nice. The staff was out there serving everybody little ice cream treats. They had really nice rapport with the residents. The residents, though, were probably a little less independent living than my parents.

Evergreen is the very best at what they can help with, and that is caring for your family member as though they were part of their own family. It is a privately owned facility and every service they provide is the epitome of personal. Martha, the Administrator, and Esmerelda, her Assistant are extremely careful to select staff who not only care for each resident with great love and compassion, but also care for the family and friends of the residents as though an extension of your family. Each staff member displays an obvious passion for what they do. This small home environment was given to us as a gift from God. Mom was only with them for about two months before she passed, and these extraordinary people fell in love with a woman who was already in advanced stages of dementia and had very little capacity to express her own gratitude for the much needed love and care she received. Even when Mom passed these people grieved as though she was their own family whom they had lost. Dementia is such a cruel condition and Evergreen and its Staff offset that cruelty with compassion and love that made it all better; you know, like mommy kissing the hurt so it would go away. They count it a privilege that you would trust them with the one you love. I could go on and on, but just visit them, you'll see what I'm referring to. Oh, and the cost is the best you will find anywhere! This is wholly sincere, and without exaggeration. Take a tour, you won't be disappointed. Thank you again Evergreen!

I liked this facility from the moment I walked through the gated entrance, so much so that I wanted to volunteer there! I had toured this facility years ago and it's been remodeled and under new management. It's a small facility that is warm and cozy, more like a home than a nursing home. The interior was warm and inviting, maybe because of the faux fireplace, but also because of the decor. I walked into the kitchen and was greeted by a friendly cook and a clean kitchen; they serve food made from scratch. The rooms were ample in size and there weren't any nasty odors. The residents that I talked with seemed happy and looked clean; they get bathed every other day unless they request more. They have a special area for the Alzheimer's patients. A group was seated in a common area where a volunteer had sung to them. The staff was friendly and smiled; I didn't get any weird vibes from anyone. The activities director seemed genuinely interested in helping the residents stay active. They have volunteers that provide weekly entertainment. I didn't get any answers to the cost, but nice environment overall (4.25 STARS)

I always mention Evergreen by name every time I hear friends and relative needing help for their elderly. My personal experience with Evergreen has been absolutely positive. First, the helpers show great compassion and truly care for the patients as if their own relative. Many of these ladies also work for the other fancy assisted living places in Visalia, so their training is just as good if not better. Second, my aunt (was there for over 4 years, but recently passed) was very under nourished from living by herself for so many years. After she moved in to Evergreen, she was back to normal weight, and back to her old self again within a couple of months since the food was incredible. Third, Evergreen passed our very sensitive sniff test since majority of other facilities do have strong urine smell. Evergreen smells and looks clean especially with more remodeling they're doing today. Last but not least, for the amount my aunt was spending compared to other fancy facilities in the area, I was blown away with Evergreen's more down to earth cost for us average folks. Other places will lure you in at a low cost when you first check in, but they'll tack on added cost with their silly point system. For example, if you want peanut butter or they wheel your aunt to the dining room, other places charge extra for this. At Evergreen, they charge you one flat rate, and that's it! We were able to stretch my aunt's savings a lot further. Don't get me wrong, Evergreen is not perfect, but for the care and love plus decent cost they provided my aunt, I wished I had placed her there first because she loved Evergreen.
