My mother is in memory care at Casa Grande. We chose it because of proximity to my home, it's clean and cheerful, and the facility has what she needs, like activities, games, and large common areas where visitors come in and put on religious music. They have outings for those who are interested and able. They have a hairstylist who comes in if you need that, food and their own kitchen, a podiatrist who comes in on a schedule, a doctor if you choose to use them, and hospice can come in if necessary. The rooms are a nice size. The staff is friendly and personable.

I called to get some basic info, and the person hung up on me after I tried to find out what the extra charge would be for a couple versus a single person. She acted like it was the most bizarre request she'd ever heard, said she was ending the conversation, and hung up. While on the phone she kept emphasizing that it's a mom and pop operation, seems to me that means they are unorganized and unprofessional.

They were very warm and welcoming at Casa Grande. It had a really nice atmosphere, and the rooms were like homes, more so than in some of the others we have seen. There were a couple of activities for that day on the activities calendar, but there was nothing going on when we were there.

I visited Casa Grande. I liked that this facility didn’t smell and that it was very homey. They did have the locked facility, but you can go anytime; the visiting hours were from 8 to 8, and you are also to take the residents out. They had three levels of care. If you’re a wanderer, they have a big area where you can wander in. They encourage the walking and have a yard that you can take them out to. They have a doctor on staff, but we could use our own doctor if we have one.

Casa Grande was a beautiful facility, but it was expensive, and they don’t have a dementia wing. It’s elegant, and we really couldn’t afford it over the long term. They didn’t have the shuttle service or bus that she wanted to use. My mother said she didn’t want to be there. It was very nice, it was a secured facility, and you have to have a code when you come in; she didn’t like that part.

This is located at a busy intersection making getting past the security gate a tad tricky. Once inside the grounds are well maintained with ample parking. The entrance is like a living room with wall murals and ornate furnishings, like grandma's house. My guide explained that's because they are a family owned facility and the owner has brought her own furnishings. There was a slight scent of potpourri throughout the air, but the facility smelled clean anyway. Some of the residents were sitting in their wheelchairs along the hallway, the rest were in their rooms or sleeping. The rooms were spacious and the residents can bring their own furniture. Each room has a toilet and sink only because the residents are bathed every other day at a communal shower. The caregiver's stations were easy to find and the staff called the residents by name. I was impressed that an Activities Director is one duty every day. They also offer Alzheimer's care. I would recommend this facility.

We arranged to take a tour of the Casa Grande senior care assisted living facility in Visalia, California as it was recommended by an acquaintance. We were impressed that it's been a family owned business since 1973. Our uncle had been living in Ventura and we weren't sure if we could find him a suitable place there, mostly because the facilities we were interested in were filled to capacity. The front entrance resembles a modern church. The adjacent gazebo was quite lovely. We waited for our personalized tour guide there, who had taken note of the things we were concerned about. Our uncle has early stages of Alzheimer's, and she assured us that this would not be a problem. The residents are checked on regularly, so that alleviated our worries. In fact, they have 3 levels of care associated with dementia, with an entire Garden Court devoted to it. We were told that they would evaluate our uncle to determine what type of care he would need. The rooms are personalized and designed to fit the needs and wants of the residents. Most of the ones we saw resembled what you might find in a very nicely appointed and well-kept private home. None of them looked like elderly people were the only residents, which we found striking. It was clear, for example, that the female residents had a more feminine décor than the men's rooms. The residents go on excursions to the nearby Sequoias and there are numerous outdoor activities year-round that our uncle could enjoy. They have many in-house musical events. The food we sampled was quite good and tasted like a home-cooked meal, with a salad, fresh vegetables, roasted chicken, bread and dessert. Our uncle is a diabetic, and the food didn't taste like it was prepared for any sort of restricted diet. We were impressed with the level of care that the residents receive and were not surprised to learn that the Silveira family started this business in 1973, caring for some folks in their own home. It's plain to see that the homey atmosphere was carried forward into the present, by the children of that family.
