It is a toss-up between Coastal View and the other place. For activities, they get to go outside, they have different physical activities, and they have drawing time where everybody can participate. There are all kinds of different small activities. It is mostly physical therapy. The staff is on you 24/7. They provide everything. The food is not bad. Depending on the requirements of the patients and the doctor's advisement, the food is OK. It is little on the bland side, but the taste depends on the physician and the diet that is recommended. The place is clean and presentable. I would trust them with my wife. She had been there twice for rehab. The staff members are on the ball. I would give them credit for that. However, the place is older and their air-conditioning is not adequate enough for the elderly.

My Aunt fell in June of this year. After 3 days in the hospital including surgery, he was sent here for therapy. I visited with her close to every day,the days I didn't, my husband did. The facility was clean, the staff was very nice to my aunt and to us as well. She was getting the help she needed. The meals were so-so. My aunt lived to eat, at times she was so turned off she didn't eat. I would ask for some fruit, or a shake and they brought it to her. My problem was trying to get answers. The nurses were great. My aunt was there 2 months. I had asked so many times to speak with the facilities Dr. Not once would he return my call. It seemed so unfair that I could not speak with him.She did pass away, not fault of the facility.

Given the situation (staff who must take care of, and deal with, elderly residents), I felt that the treatment of my Aunt was respectable. She was placed into a room with another resident of her age, recovering from a similar surgery, and both died within a month. This fact reflects more about the age and condition of the residents than anything else. Despite the fragility of the residents, I found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I only visited the location for a week, and yet they recalled my name and relation to the resident upon each visit following the initial visit. However, my aunt did express unhappiness about some staff and complained frequently about not being tended to. Given the potential for, and widespread data recognizing, elder abuse in these facilities, I would not be surprised if that were true. Nevertheless, I saw staff tending to her at times when I'm not certain they knew I was present or walking in the room, and they seemed to care for her about as well as they could for a 99 year old.
