My mom is at Los Palos Convalescent Hospital. We like it. Everybody there is very helpful. It's always clean. They take really good care of my mom, and they're personal with the family. And they do activities with them. It's a really good place. My mom likes the food there. Everybody gets different stuff according to their dietary needs. My mom is blind, and it has gotten a lot worse. On the menu, if it says chicken breast with like mushroom gravy on top, they know my mom can eat that because she can't see how to cut it, so hers is either ground turkey or ground beef, and then they'll put the sauce on top of that. They adapt to whatever everybody's needs are. They help my mom eat breakfast, and then I get there by lunch and dinner, so I always help her with that. But they know that as long as they can put it in the middle of her plate and give her a spoon and tell her what's on the plate, she can eat by herself. The food smells good every day when I go there. They do physical therapy. They'll come in the room, and do like a 20-minute exercise with them just to keep them moving for the most part. For the people that can get up, they get them bathed, they get them dressed, and they shower them. Then they go to the activity room where they play music. After lunch, they play bingo. Morning time is usually like meeting each other in the morning. They eat lunch in the activity room. It's a big dining/activity room. They have movies 3 or 4 days a week. They have popcorn. They have a man that comes maybe once a week, and does activities. Sometimes he'll play live entertainment. Last week, somebody brought a therapy dog in.

Some of the staff here seem uninformed and or difficult to work with. I’ve had many concerns and have tried to handle it with the staff but I keep getting the run around. There are times that I call and no one will answer the phone and or I’m transferred to a voicemail or hung up on. When I leave messages, I never receive a call back. I hope to find another place for my parent soon, but it’s a difficult situation due to the pandemic happening. Also the Social Service dept is supposed to help you with this type of situation but don’t even call you back to discuss anything. This is the reason for this review! I’m at my wits end and don’t know what exactly I can do or what my parents rights are.

Los Palos Convalescent has more of a hospital atmosphere. The care was good, but my mother-in-law had difficult roommates. The physical therapy was excellent, they worked very hard with her, and the food was also good. She just had trouble sleeping because of all the activities at night, so she was very glad to leave. They also had a big room for group activities.

Mom has been at Los Palos Convalescent Hospital for two months now and she seems to be comfortable there. The place is decent and clean, and the staff seems to care for the residents there. One thing I would say about this place is they attend to the needs of their residents much quicker than in other places.

Los Palos Convalescent Hospital is an older, larger facility for those needing long term nursing care. Los Palos Convalescent Hospital is located near a school and a residential area. This facility is offset from the street by a long tree-lined driveway. The grounds are well maintained with lovely hedges and an assortment of rose bushes. There is plenty of parking. Visitors are required to sign in at a reception window. The receptionist is always friendly and willing to offer assistance or directions if needed. This facility always appears clean with plenty of staff members on hand to meet the needs of their patients. The atmosphere at times feels industrial, with hustle and bustle of carts, linen, and staff responding to the needs of patient care. The staff appears to have sincere care and concern for their patients; wearing walkie-talkie devices to assure optimum response time to patient needs. The rooms are always clean, well maintained, and mostly shared. Activity programs like singing and music allow the patients to gather together on a frequent basis for stimulation and enjoyment. I would be happy to recommend this facility with confidence to family, friends, and associates.
