My mom moved into Pacifica Senior Living, San Leandro, in July of this year. Prior to moving in, this was her life - married for 65 years, raised 5 children, lived in same San Francisco apartment since early 1990s. Our father, her husband, was placed in long term care in March of 2021 until he passed away in 2023. For the better part of three years, my mom lived alone in that S.F. apartment. Because she never learned to drive a car, she was dependent on her children to take her to visit our father, to shop with her for groceries and other necessities, and most importantly, for companionship. In May of this year, she was hospitalized and needed help from her children to recuperate. It was then that my brother, my three sisters, and I decided it was time to look into assisted living for our 88-year-old mother. My brother and I searched for senior housing in the San Francisco Bay Area, We found Pacifica Senior Living in San Leandro. It is located about 10 minutes from one of us, and the idea of that proximity was intriguing. My brother and I visited with Shirley, the Community Relations Director, separately. After our visits, we both agreed that this could be a great fit for our mother (emphasis on “could”). It was then time to broach the idea of moving into an assisted living community with mom. Inseparable from our dad between 1958 and 2021, my mom was suddenly thrust into living by herself. Because of her recent hospitalization and subsequent recuperation period, she actually accepted the idea of moving into an assisted living community where: she would no longer need to cook for herself; she would get her apartment cleaned regularly; she would get her laundry done for her; and, if and when needed, she would have access to special assistance with bathing and dressing. Pacifica Senior Living in San Leandro provides all of these services for her, but what we did not count on was the transformative power of the “Community” that is the Pacifica. Every single person she has met has been welcoming – Shirley, Lisa, Glenda, Gladys, Linda, Gendelle, Nancy, Edna, Vicky, Judee, Jerome, Delma, Roselyn, Clarissa and countless others! Our mother is thriving at the Pacifica! She enjoys the food offerings. She has made friends with her fellow residents. She has participated in many of the daily activities. Every day when we speak, either in person or on the phone, she tells me about her day. This formerly reclusive/exclusive woman is now participating in community morning stretches, physical exercise, community walks and field trips. She attends religious service. She enjoys the musical entertainment. She looks forward to playing bingo. I find it amusing that in order to visit, I must first check the Activity Calendar, so I know where to find my mom!

It is a beautiful facility in downtown San Leandro that is just a short distance from many outside activities. Staff was very friendly and supportive of my brother's needs beyond their facility's grounds. I will definitely recommend Gilbert and his team to our friends.

My mother-in-law is at Pacifica Senior Living San Leandro. She likes where it was. The front of the building faces the street and they've got these beautiful plants. It's in between a grocery store and the BART train here in San Leandro, so it's easy for transportation and then there's easy access to the grocery store and a small strip mall. The building is very nice. It's a brick red. It's not very big; it's about three stories. When you walk up, there are places to sit outside, there are very nice plants and landscaping. Everybody greets you when you walk in, so they make it very warm and inviting. The clients who are already there seem to be happy. They greet you as well. The staff there, Erin and Gilbert, were both very helpful, very responsive, and patient with us. They allowed us to come and visit multiple times before we finally decided. They're easy to reach, and they answer all of our questions. The lady who does the activities is also very nice and responsive. They do different group activities like chair volleyball, bingo, dominoes, and walks in the neighborhood. They have church service. There's a school, maybe two blocks away that will come and play music. The music department comes over and plays music for everyone. They have a lot of fun activities. My mother-in-law is in a studio apartment, and it's just the right size for her and what she needs. There's a balcony so that she's able to sit outside for fresh air if she likes. She likes that she can control her heat and make it as hot as she wants to. The staff is very responsive and easy to get to.

What I liked best about Pacifica Senior Living San Leandro was it was much more of a hotel living and their dining had more of a restaurant feel to it. The staff was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and understanding, too. I was very impressed with them.

I lived here for the last 6 months. I've had excellent care since I've been here. Getting through the pandemic was tough but the staff all pitched in to help us through it. I think everything is great. I used to work in a senior community as a cook and I've seen how things operate and this place outshines all the other places. Overall, Pacifica San Leandro is really a good place to live. I feel like I hit the lottery when I moved in. This place makes me feel at home because a lot of the residents here are people that I grew up with, living on the same street or neighborhood, and we went to the same school. I am content with my new home. I feel connected Pacifica Family to me is more than my own family. Thank you to all the staff for making my stay here a happy and joyful one!

Balloon Badminton - A Sport I enjoy

My home in Castro Valley burned down in APril 2021 for unknown reasons...My daughters found me a place at Pacifica Senior Living and thank God I am happy here. I like the people , the place and especially the program. My favorite is balloon badminton played twice a week. As a child I did not play ball because I could not focus on objects coming at me in the air or on the ground. Now at 75, I found a "sport" I enjoy. Balloon Badminton-It's a simple sport with few rules: don't pop the balloons, don't hit others with your racket, keep the balloons in the air and most important, enjoy the company of others. This last is the paramount rule because enjoying the company of others is the best remedy for the threat of isolation... Anyone can play and do play this game at Pacifica---80 and 90 years old, one arm, one leg, wheel chair, walker, thin and fluffy - it doesn't matter. All can swing at the balloons and enjoy the company of others.

The quality of all the employees is first and foremost! I never see a grumpy face or hear derogatory comments. The food is sometimes good and sometimes comme ci, comme ca. It's always fresh. Residents are always treated with kindness, care and concern.

My client moved to Pacifica Senior Living San Leandro into her own studio. She hasn't even been there for a month, but she's doing really good. The place is really nice, and she likes it there. It's relaxed, has activities to do if she chooses, and she has physical therapy that can come to her room and help her. They provide her meals and snacks. The staff is really attentive to their needs.

Pacifica took wonderful care of my aunt! On very little notice, my aunt was able to stay at Pacifica for 3 weeks in respite, while she awaited relocating out of town. She had just been released from hospital and couldn’t return home. We were given only a couple of days to find an immediate care facility that could accommodate her. While at Pacifica, she seemed to adapt very quickly and receive excellent attention and care. She appeared very well rested and rejuvenated. She really enjoyed the staff and caretakers. The facility has a very homey atmosphere and was decorated particularly festive for the seasonal holidays. The management and staff at Pacifica were all genuinely caring and pleasant to work with. They were very accommodating and provided transport and accompanied her to a doctor appointment. I highly recommend Pacifica for the facility and their management/staff, based on my aunt’s recent experience.

Pacifica is a really nice place. Everyone here is super friendly and professional. They really take the time to welcome and get to know family and residents and call you by name as you enter. They have a lot of activities for the residents and fun trips. If you're looking for a nice place for your loved one, Pacifica San Leandro is one of the nicer ones.

Pacifica Senior Living San Leandro's rooms had a front and back door to the unit. They are updating their units, taking out their carpet, and are instead putting in tile or wood-looking floors. 90% of their rooms have a deck so you can open up and get fresh air. It's multiple levels and has underground parking. The place is kind of compact, which is nice, and its not spread out so much that a person can get lost. I saw a neat activity there where everybody was sitting in chairs around the walls and there was a girl in the middle batting a balloon and people were swatting at it with badminton rackets, which was fun.

We recently helped to move my mother to Pacifica Senior Living in SanLeandro. She was already living in a retirement community setting because she has lost her vision and has mobility issues as well. The difference is night and day. They are very attentive to her needs. With supportive staff. When you go in there is a friendly feeling as if you are home. Music playing, people gathered and talking and there are watermelons and tomatoes growing in the resident's accessible garden which is on the front patio. Everything is accessible and comfortable. (not faux fancy or alternatively institutional) Thank you Pacifica SanLeandro.

Pacifica Senior Living is a smaller facility compared to the other places we visited. We chose this place for my father. It was in a reasonable part of town. It was clean and new. It looked nice. The rooms were nice as well -- a little bit bigger compared to others. Their dining looked very nice and updated. The settings of their tables are inviting for the people that live there. Their facilities were also very nice. My father does not do a lot of activities, but I saw that they have a room for bingo and a big screen TV. They watch movies, and that was nice; I think my dad would like that.

I like Pacifica Senior Living San Leandro. The only problem was in the two-bedroom, the living room was too for our stuff. We have three big TVs, a sofa, a recliner, and a stereo, so it won't fit in there. I only met one staff member, and he's nice. It looked clean. I suggested that they open the patio and extend it to become part of the living room, but that's too expensive, and they did not do that.

I'm happy here at Pacifica Senior Living San Leandro. I picked it because it's close to my sister and costs less than the place where I was living. I'm very close to BART, Safeway, CVS and all my banks. The food is much better than the other place I was living. The staff is very attentive. They have bingo, games and happy hour once a week; take us out to lunch every Wednesday; and have movies on every night. It didn't have grounds to walk around though. It's on the main street, but they do have trees around the place, which is very nice, and my cat likes it.
