Norwood Pines Alzheimer's Center is a busy place, but they're very well-organized. My husband has a CNA that's with him during all the other CNAs' working hours. He is a very kind, very calm, and very gentle person. They are real people. They all interact with the residents and the visitors. The food smells delicious and my husband eats every single bite of it. The facility is just dark. My husband and I don't do well in the dark. Other than that, I'm satisfied with the care my husband is receiving and I'm happy with what we've got. So, the value is good.

My brother moved to North Pointe Care Center. For one thing, we went down there. He'd been there for a week. He hasn't shaved. They had the wrong clothes on him, and the wrong shoes. He had no socks on, no underwear on, and he had poop in his pants. It's like they weren't taking care of him like they should have. There were a lot of people there, and they were just kind of roaming around, just like lost. I didn't like it. He was in a private room. The upkeep is good on it, but there were a few rooms that I had walked by that smelled like urine. But other than that, the rest of the place was fairly clean. They were having some kind of party down there for Father's Day, and they told us he was in a room where everybody was celebrating. We went into the room, and everybody was sitting at the table and nothing was happening. They were celebrating nothing. I didn't taste the food or anything. They didn't have any food out. They didn't have enough staff. Some of the staff were nice and some of them weren't nice. They didn't have any programs for anybody that I can see.

We needed a locked down facility for mom Who tends to escape from regular hospitals. We found Norwood Pines. It is an older facility that needs updating but most importantly I found the staff and care of my mom to be gentle and caring. I always received a phone call for any issues or problems that my mom is going through. And monthly checkin phone calls to discuss anything needed. They clean regularly so the facility doesn’t smell like urine like a lot of places do. I am very happy with my moms care at Norwood pines.

My friend recommended. I needed a place for my loved one, situation was getting worse - more aggressive and physically abusive to my family. It was becoming an unsafe home environment. The place was clean, didn't have any foul smells and the staff were funny and polite. The meals are hot and they get three, with snack options thru out the day. I happen to be there they day, Elvis came into to entertain the facility. Good place, they worked really hard for my family and many times went above and beyond. Thank you all.

My father was cared for at Norwood Pines for over a year. What wonderful, caring people! After years of care at his home and my home, to be able to visit with him as his daughter was such a blessing at the end of his time.

The staff there are wonderful, they all do their very best to take care the patient. This facility is music ND memory certified, they are very welcoming and great with the residents. It takes a special person to care for residents with Alzheimer’s, and Behavioral.

Although many of the staff are great and go beyond to make the patients feel secure and taken care of, BEWARE THE ADMINISTRATION!!!!! My mother had a fall there and in 7 months no one will tell me the circumstances of what happened and I HAVE DURABLE POWER OF ATTORNEY OVER HER!! I have been denied information that any relative should expect. And forget the ombudsman program! THAT'S A JOKE! They do nothing to advise or protect your loved one's..Get an attorney right off.

My mother received excellent care during her final months of life at Norwood Pines. There are an army of staff people who are very attentive and provide ongoing care and monitoring. My mother was very difficult and aggressive and it was hard to find any facility that would take her for the price that we were able to pay. While Norwood Pines may not be fancy or upscale, it is clean. I rarely smelled urine, which is common in these facilities because everyone is incontinent and the staff is continually changing diapers. My mother's clothing and belongings did go missing at times, but that was because she carried them to other rooms and left them there and they don't know or remember what is theirs and what is not. And they are washing 160 people's clothing and it is very difficult to sort all that out with the incredible amount of soiled clothing they have to deal with. Initially I was frustrated by articles of clothing or shoes missing, but after a while, I saw that it wasn't important because she was always dressed in clean clothes and she certainly didn't seem to care. She did get bruised and fell occasionally, but that is because this is a no restraint facility. They try to minimize meds and restraints and the patients are able to have free reign within the locked facility. My mom needed this because she climbed out of wheelchairs. That type of facility is difficult to find in Sacramento. If you are looking for a fancy upscale facility, don't go here. If you want a no frills, caring, no restraint facility, this is your place. My family and I feel extremely blessed that we found Norwood Pines.

Norwood Pines, is a wonderful place. My Mom has been there since July 2014, and i have never found her uncomfortable, scared, or in a dangerous predicament. They have a terrific staff, who respects & truly cares for each of their residents. She gets great nutritional meals, bathed 2 times a week, and treated to numerous events. They have musical shows weekly, & daily group classes, which stimulate their brains & are fun too! They have a full rehab, nursing, maintenance, activity, & culinary staff that are quality trained, while being terrific caring folks! I thank God, every day for Norwood Pines, they love & care for my Mom daily. <3

If there was an option for no stars that's how many I would give this institution. My grandfathers personal items went missing the day he was admitted and never found, his watch was broken off of his arm and he had mysterious bruising on his body. My grandfather also contacted a serious case of scabies from this facility. The facility itself needs some up keeping. It's gloomy and has a strong smell of urine. I visited my grandfather many times at different hours of the day and never witnessed any activities. Some of the staff are nice but most are rude. Sadly my healthy grandfather died after being in this facility for only 4 months. Personally I would never put an enemy in this place let alone a family member. Please take caution if considering this facility.

The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive to the needs of the residents. My grandmother has shown a great improvement living there; she has social interaction on a daily basis, something she did not have before. Most of the staff actually knew who I was before I arrived because I call frequently and send my grandmother pictures, which she shows off to her caretakers.

While the inside is very drab and institutional, Norwood Pines has been helpful to families who have no other options. Many facilities do not take individuals who have disruptive and aggressive behaviors (for example a patient suffering from frontotemporal dementia or FTD). Norwood Pines will often help these individuals when nobody else will. For family members who have no other place to turn in placing their loved one, you would want to consider Norwood Pines.

Located in northwest Sacramento, on East I-80, off Northgate Ave., twenty minutes east of downtown Sacramento, is Norwood Pines. Norwood Pines is a skilled nursing facility of moderate size specializing in residents with Alzheimer's Dementia, and other related mental issues. I have many friends who worked there and became familiar with the surroundings. The outside atmosphere is lovely. Shade trees, a gazebo, and a pond surround the outside area, both front and back yard. For the residents this affords a great area to walk when the weather is nice. The inside is a bit too dark, and institutional. By necessity this is an alarmed facility, and a locked door bars residents from the lobby and beyond. The inside ambiance could be more inviting. I don't understand why so many communities need to be so dark inside. I'd recommend brighter colors myself. Though odors can be an issue, more often than not, the staff tries to stay on top of them. Many times it doesn't appear much is happening in the activity rooms. Many residents look like they are looking for something to do. As I have visited many times, it seems like the activity program needs a little more energy. Their activity program which consists of music, exercise, and art is good but could be more state-of-the-art programming. All staff, licensed nurses, cna's, and managers are trained in dealing with the various behaviors exhibited here, and do a great job when residents need redirection. The amount of staff to meet resident needs is above average. Though most staff shows an air of friendliness, a few tend to be reticent to interact with outsiders. Family involvement is encouraged. Management tries to involve families in group events but families seem reluctant to participate. Though the dietary department presents attractive meals, the residents seem easily distracted at mealtimes. Perhaps it is the environment, but if Norwood Pines could enliven the surroundings with some brighter brush strokes, it would be a good move. Some greater attention on housekeeping issues would help. I have always felt their rooms were too small for the residents privacy and comfort. It must be difficult for anyone to have to share a room. I believe their activity program needs to be more dynamic. Considering the resident's needs, the staff makes a great effort to bring a measure of happiness to their environment. On a scale of 1 to 5, I'd rank Norwood Pines a 3.50.

My loved one fell on her 5th day at Norwood Pines and fractured her hip. After she had surgery and went back to Norwood Pines, she fell the very next day and BROKE HER OTHER HIP! (She was walking when she was admitted.) ...Don't put your loved on here.
