I am presently staying at The Gables of Ojai. It is our choice because my grandson lives in Ojai and they want to able to contact me and take care of my needs. I use to stay next door and I am much happier there, but my grandson is concerned because it has steps and he is afraid I may fall. Everyone here is very helpful and pleasant. The food is good. They allow me to have my pet cat. Whenever I need anything, all I have to do is pick up the phone or push a button. I really feel like I don't have to be concerned about anything because everything is taken care of.

The Gables of Ojai is a very homey place. You can see that it's quite lived in. It's been around for a while, but their facilities are very accommodating. They're also very expensive. That's why I couldn't do it out there. They don't have any real independent places. They're almost all the same in terms of space. The staff was excellent. It was very well-kept and clean.

The Gables of Ojai is a very, very nice community. It's beautiful. The staff is lovely. The rooms are nice, but the community is on the smaller size and that's why we did not go there. Nevertheless, it's almost like a house. They probably have maybe 20 rooms at the most. But it's very intimate, and it feels very, warm. It feels like a house. The woman who heads up the whole community is very proactive and very caring. The food was great. We had lunch. We didn't have options. Maybe they have options once you're a resident, but the food we were given was a good amount and very, very tasty.

My father-in-law was up in The Gables of Ojai for almost seven years. He was in a one-bedroom, one-bath unit. It's an older facility, and their care went from a five down to a three, in which they didn't have a nurse anymore to check on things with the residents. It was very expensive. The staff is very good, they're awesome. It's just that their facility is a little bit old. The food was so-so at the end there. A lot of people were complaining about it. I wouldn't recommend them at this time. They need to change things a bit. They have different stages, they have independent assisted and then memory care type of facility. They have studios, they have like a little bit higher up than a studio, but it's still a studio all on one floor, no wall, but it's a divider. Then they have one bedroom, they can convert two rooms into a two-bedroom. So they'll put a wall up, take a wall down to make larger units for them. They always have plumbing issues, backed-up toilets, and weeds on the lines. There are always plumbers out there almost every day. But, it's a nice facility, It's a beautiful setting. There are a lot of places to sit out by the rose garden. They have their activities, too. They have people come in and entertain. They have a chair exercise, they have their movies, and they have a swimming pool there also, which is nice. What you get for your money in our opinion, wasn't worth it.

Oh my gosh! Gables of Ojai was beautiful. I saw the dining area; it was beautiful. They were having activities -- an art class -- with people that live there, and they seemed so happy. It was clean. It looked like the people there were well cared for. Overall, it was a good experience. The woman that took me on a tour was very nice. Everybody looked happy. It was clean, and it looked like it was professionally run.

The Gables of Ojai is wonderful. It’s my favorite of all the places my mom has been with. The facility has a tremendous amount of intellectual stimulation. Their activity directors are active. They have a choir, they put on plays, they have lectures and entertainment. They take people to places. They have a very nice dining room service. It’s a place I wouldn’t mind being in myself. I wouldn’t give them a perfect rating, just because we had difficulty getting the morning help that my mother needed. We paid money for it, but they did not provide it on a consistent basis. But I really like that place; it’s just lovely.

My sister stayed a while at the Gables of Ojai. It's a lovely facility, but she needed 24/7 care, and they had no availability there, so we couldn't stay. We were there for six weeks or so. I stayed with her because she couldn't be alone. We just stayed in one of their buildings. We ate their food, which was wonderful.

I wasn't overly impressed with The Gables. It was just run down. The apartments weren't that great, but they were OK. They didn't have us have food with them. The staff wasn't even very excited to show me the place. They showed me a couple of rooms, and they were about the same as the other facility in price. It wasn't appealing to me, and it felt run down. I didn't see any activities. It was kind of like "here's your apartment, you're on your own and we serve food." They need to be friendly to people that come to see it.
