My mom was in Chaparral Rose for a while. The lady that runs the place is a nurse, and the people that were there were very good. I think they have 6 rooms -- 6 ladies -- and that’s it. It’s very nice. It’s a big house, and they’ve converted the garage into a couple of different rooms. They have everybody come in for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they make everything right there. They have the living room set up so everybody can sit in there and watch TV if they can all agree on what they’re watching, but most of them have TVs in their rooms. It’s not perfect, but the setup that they have there is nice. The backyard is real comfortable. They can sit up there on the covered patio and hang out. I like it because it’s not a big huge place that smells like urine all the time.

Chapparal is cheap -- it’s a single family home -- but very large and it suits my mother. She is doing very well and thriving. She has a lot of interface with not only the person who operates the facility and who lives there, but also the other residents. There are only four of them, so you get to know each other pretty well and that has been very helpful. The food is really good stuff that she likes and it’s a real plus. They have activities, but a lot of times they just would be outside, enjoying that, and it’s mainly the social interaction. The downside is that there’s a lot of stuff that the owner has collected over the years -- like furniture -- but I think they are in the process of cleaning up.
