We placed my father in a board and care facility called Hidden Valley Care Home in Lafayette. He was only there one night, but it was very good. We were very happy with it. It was the best fit for his needs. He was bedbound. It seemed like he was going to get more attention and a higher level care because it was a small facility. There were only seven beds and three nurses. He had a very simple room. They provided a closet and a dresser. Usually, the patient is prescribed a hospital bed, but my dad had sliding glass doors out onto a deck and a big backyard. It was wheelchair accessible. The idea was that in nice weather, the dog could come over and see him and that the grandchildren could come over and hang out in the backyard. It was a really nice facility. The staff cooked the food, and the food was amazing. I had a plate for dinner, and it was fantastic and delicious food. They made fried chicken the night we were there, and it was delicious. They bring activities in, but he was not in a state that he could really do any activities. All these residences are expensive, but this one was on the lower price range.

In January my husband fell and broke a femur. He's been in Hidden Valley Care Home. He is treated as a person and he is treated very well. He has made a lot of progress. It has been a very good experience. The room is quite versatile and is large enough for a wheelchair and a walker that comes along with him. It has a floor to ceiling window looking out into the greenery, and he likes that. Some of the food is very good, but some days it is not up to that standard. I haven't been aware of activities because my husband has been getting physical therapy and doing things to get back to using his feet again. He hasn't been involved in anything else. The way they talk to them is like a human being and not a patient. He is a person, and that is very important.
