I enjoyed my stay at Grossmont because they gave more attention. I thought the food and staff were really great. They were friendly and concerned. They gave good attention to you like when they gave you a shower, they said: "You got to be careful" and they watched so you wouldn't fall. I told them that I was okay when I was by myself, but they were still concerned. There were two people in a room like me and another lady and each of us had our own flat TV and it was up on the wall. It comfortable because it was up and high so if you were laying down, you could still see it. We also had our own little cupboard area where we could put our personal items and also a bed side table.

The most recent facility that my mom was in is Grossmont Acute Care Center. She was there last year too, and I was very impressed with it last year. The staff was very professional, and she liked it. She was in a room with three other ladies, and she didn’t feel so lonely. They had a big window with lots of light coming in, which is what she liked. She does not like being in a dark room where it is depressing. The second time she wasn’t happy, but she has anxiety issues, so I have a feeling her anxiety was playing into it and she would not have been happy anywhere. She did not like the food. She said everybody was being given the same food. I thought it would be more tailored to the person’s needs, but she was given the exact same food as her roommate and everybody else. They were giving her one time a bag of potato chips, which she was not allowed to have sodium or anything that was high sodium, and then another entrée was pizza, and because of her abdominal pain she had to have bland plain food, but that’s not what she was always receiving for her meals. So things that were not really tailored to her actual needs, they were giving her that. She said the daytime staff was very accommodating, very helpful, and supportive. She said the opposite about the night time staff. She would call me at all hours of the night; she would call me at 12 midnight or at 2, 3 A.M crying that she wasn’t getting her needs met or that she was in pain and they were not giving her pills and things like that. And like I said, part of that could be her anxiety that played into it too, but she never called me during the day to complain about the daytime staff. I do not want to mark them down, but then again it was not superior either. It was average.
