I have read the statement by the family member of a former resident and cannot believe his impression of Astoria Eldercare. My mother has been there since April of 2012 until the present, which has been about 1 year and eight months. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 5 years ago and has progressively gotten worse. She is given only what is prescribed to her by her doctor. The staff at Astoria has always been kind to her and understands her situation. In the last few months her abilities have changed dramatically. It has been difficult for us, but we are grateful to Astoria and will keep my mother there as long as we possibly can. We have seen all the people that have been there, and not a single person was drugged out. The house at Astoria Eldercare is in a very nice, newer neighborhood. Inside it is elegantly furnished and extraordinarily clean. The residents are really treated like family. We are always updated as to my mother's condition, whether by texting or when we visit. If you are considering care for a family member, you should visit Astoria and see what is really the truth. Perhaps, if my mother is still there they could introduce her to you.

Most of the patients here in Astoria were so drugged out that they couldn't talk and they don't even know where they were. My mother after only three weeks of being there was slumped over in her chair with a drool running down her mouth and I was not very happy about this situation. The staff was non-conversant and doesn't understand basic English and they also have no common sense to go along with it. With regard to activities, they sing and that's about it. My mom had a shared room with another patient and it was just an average room.
