I am the daughter of a patient in memory care. Because I live out of state, I am very grateful for the caring staff who has shown real concern for my mother. The facility is old, and not fancy, but my mother's happiness is of paramount importance, and she is happy and content there most of the time. The main challenge is that the phone system needs work, and it's hard to get someone to answer the phone at times. Over the 5 years my mother has been there, I have learned to trust the level of her care. My mother often sings and dances in their musical evening events.

Very difficult to call my brother. Unit 1 phone rings incessantly but is seldom answered. On the rare ocasion it is answered, they only have one portable phone that is likely being used. It’s like my brother is already dead. Disgraceful facility.

I would not recommend this facility, it is almost impossible to get through on the phone to speak to a resident to find out how the are doing. It is very disturbing not to be able to go in but surely someone should be able to share her status. The phone service needs to be drastically improved. I spoke to one gentleman there that was very helpful he actually went over to station 2 and asked them to answer the phone this is one time I was able to get through.

Correct, San Miguel Villa is no country club of a nursing home, but they admit patients of very complicated conditions and my family is simply grateful they admitted my father—no one else would (not even private pay facilities, when we offered to pay privately). My father has been there 7 years and the staff has done a very good job caring for him.

My husband moved into San Miguel Villa. It's an older facility, but they're very conscientious with what they're doing. My husband seemed to like it, they're really nice to him, and he's eating good. They're doing rehab therapy for him. The room is average size, and he has a roommate.

Miserable place. Large very institutional, and poorly kept. Walls and floors dirty and stained. Rooms unkempt, dark, dingy and very obviously not clean. I didn't know a place like this existed. Where is the Medi-Cal/Medicare oversight? Could not imagine living there, or having my parent there. Who owns this depressing place?

I met a few staff that was OK at San Miguel Villa, but the facility to me was not good. They did not explain everything to me. They told me that since my father has Medical and Medicare, I would not billed, but they billed me anyway. They did not give me correct information. The rooms could be better. My father did not like it at all. He was not comfortable or happy there. The dining room was OK.

I have lived at San Miguel Villa for two months now. They’re bringing people in and it’s a difficult setup to do. There’s a big group of people that are here. Most of the staff are very kind and nice. My biggest concern is with management of the company overall. The people don’t have resources to do the things they need to get done. There’s a lack of training in the staff, and there’s a high turnover of staff. I share a room with another person. For activities, there is a television and there’s not a lot of interactive direction here. The food can be delivered to your room or the cafeteria and there are no choices to choose from. The food is marginal at best.

While the employees I met seemed nice enough, the facility is dirty. I visited three times in one week, and the floor remained messy with bits of paper, dirt and dust collecting along the edges. Each visit a sock, empty plastic bottle or used tissue paper was on the floor, against a wall, under the bed, behind the nightstand. The floor tile didn't even reach the wall, which was stained and peeling. The bathroom had green paint seeming to bleed through the ugly yellowing of what may have at one time been cream colored paint. There were splashed dried droplets of something orangish/reddish along the floor, wall and doors. The bed cover had a reddish stain on it. The sheets were pinkish and not white. Nothing looked or seemed clean. I wish the facility looked and felt cleaner. I wish I could take my relative from there. I hope I never end-up in a facility that looks like this. Isn't there a place that not only looks clean, is clean and has caring, competent nurses; one that accepts medicare patients. I am not speaking of these nurse's competency; I have no experience in that area. They just seem nice. If you have a friend or relative here, I hope you visit often.
