I like New West Haven, it's clean, it's nice, and the people are happy, but there's not enough workers to take care of all of them. The residents sit around and don't have anybody that comes to take care of them. They're not paid enough to do as good a job as we're expecting. The staff is very good, but there were times when they can't be there for my father. He needs extra care or somebody to assist him, but they can't because they're busy with 10 other people. They give them lots of things to do, lots of food choices, his room is big and comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. He has a little kitchenette, a little sink, and a small refrigerator. They have a room where they do fun things, and they have an activity director. The staff is very attentive, but because they're busy, they can't always get to you on time.

I toured New West Haven. I liked it because it felt very homey. It was smaller than most of the ones that I've ever been to, but it seemed very nice, as well as the people I met. I met people who worked in the kitchen, those who worked with each person, and the activities director. It was a rainy day, and the people who normally gave the tours were not available. So, the activities director took me around. I enjoyed it and they were very personable. They invited me to stay for lunch, but I couldn't because I had an appointment at the other facility, and then I had another appointment right after that to go somewhere. So, I declined. They showed me all the floor plans and things that would be available, like a one-bedroom or studio type. They showed me all different levels and I liked it because it had an elevator in it that you could use.

New West Haven was very clean and homey. The facility was great. It had a good atmosphere and the people were friendly. The staff was fine. There were a couple of them that I went through the house. I don't know their names, but it was a good meeting and they were a good example of what I'm looking for, but the primary thing that's weighing me is the monthly rent. They were enjoying games, poker, cards, and exercises. That's just what comes around. I like to play cards and I like poker and they have that. They have all the amenities. They have a steam shower and sauna. The people were fantastic.

New West Haven was not a place I'd want to go. It's for people who need more care than my grandfather. It's like a hall with rooms off of it, with a central area for people to go and hang out. I didn't like that as much. It's much smaller, which may be better for some people, but I didn't like the setup as much as the more independent living place. This is more of an assisted living. The staff seemed nice and everyone looked cared for. If you need that level, that's probably good, although I haven't seen any other assisted living. There was a craft or an activities room. There was a dining area and a cafe area for snacks throughout the day. There were also multiple shared spaces where residents could go hang out. They also had an extra kitchen that if a family wanted to come and cook food, they could use that separate kitchen.

Our tour at New West Haven was great, and the place was nice. The staff members were friendly, kind, and observant, and they met our every need. I would recommend them to other people. It's just more commercialized compared to a small residential home, so my mom didn't like it. We had lunch there and it was excellent.

My mom is in New West Haven. It is a fabulous, small, and beautiful facility, but my mom needs higher level care. I love the people that work there. There are activities happening six days a week. It is a very homey, beautiful Italian villa. Everybody has to wear a pendant that if pushed, someone is there to help within a few minutes.

I have visited New West Haven a couple of times. The marketing director was very nice. My husband will be going in April. It's a very nice facility, and I think it will work out well for his needs. It was very well kept. It's a large facility. It's smaller in number of people. There is probably less than 40 people that live there. It is also close to our home, so that works out.

What I liked the most about New West Haven was that it was more of a house setting. The staff people were wonderful. It had a nice dining room and the bedroom was a nicely sized room. It would probably only be three-stars at this point in time, because when I backed out, the lady got rude with me and I didn't appreciate that.
