My dad is in Silverado Calabasas. It is a fine, older building that is well maintained. The hallways are wide. There is plenty of space in the room and lots of common spaces. They allow animals and want the residents to feel at home. There are dogs and kitties there and other animals outside. The building is light and bright. They do a good job keeping it maintained and making sure that it does not smell. It is expensive, but it is proportioned to what they do. They are understaffed at the moment, but they work really hard to make it work and are hiring more people. I think that they have very high standards for themselves and treat their residents with love, dignity, and respect. They definitely are receptive. If there are things that need to happen, they do their best to make it happen.

We're currently applying my husband to Silverado Calabasas. It was recommended by my husband's doctor. They have a number of activities going on that are in addition to the normal bingo and exercise classes. They have a cooking class going on too. They have a number of pets for the residents to play with like dogs, cats, and rabbits. I only met a few of their staff, and they were very nice. Also they have a fellow coming around playing his guitar and taking requests for songs. Their rooms were fairly spacious.

So far, we are very happy with Silverado Calabasas. They seem to be doing a good job with my mother. She seems to be flourishing and socializing with the residents. She is eating well, and they are taking care of her medication needs. So far, so good. It seems very clean and very neat, and I would give them high marks for that. As for activities, they seem to have a variety of things that I have seen so far.

He lives in Silverado in Calabasas. I don't know if I looked at it on the internet and then somebody else recommended it to me. I can't remember because he's been there almost a year. None of the facilities are perfect, so you have a lot of different complaints. But their cost has gone up 15%, and I know a lot of people are upset about that. The food is good there, and my husband likes the food. He has no complaints about the food although he doesn't talk, so he can't complain about anything. They have different activities, but my husband no longer can participate in any of the activities. They have entertainment, and they do activities with the people who can respond and get something out of it. The security is very good. They have a lot of caretakers that are there and watch all of the people. My husband wasn't one to try and get out, and he really didn't have any problem with security. I just think the people who are running Silverado has much more experience in handling Alzheimer's patients. I think sometimes they have a hard time getting the clothes back to the right people though. I think that is a problem in most nursing home facilities. The laundry doesn't always end up on the right place, and it is a continual problem that is hard to solve. He shares a room with another patient, and there is no problem with the room. It is pleasant and bright.

I'm pleased with the way my husband is treated and cared for in Silverado. They were capable of dealing with the problems that my husband had. It's a large facility with a lot of outdoor space, a lot of hallways so the residents can walk around all day. They have lots of organized activities that everyone can participate in if he wants to do so. So far, the staff has been very good. They treat everyone warmly and they are able to deal with their outbursts as they sometimes occur. I'm glad I chose Silverado because the outdoor space is a very good thing to have. My husband loves to walk outside. They have a bunny hatch and an aviary. It's amazing how people come out of their shell when they hear music or pet a dog. My husband has improved tremendously to a point that he wants to come home.

Christine, thanks for your comments. As you noted, Silverado Calabasas' bright, lively atmosphere and open, secure grounds allows residents to remain social and active while they continue to enjoy the things that were important to them before their diagnosis. Thank you again for your positive feedback!

I was hoping my aunt would have been able to at least spend her final days here. Everyone, I mean EVERYONE is so caring and attentive. True. if you look at the price tag you may be overwhelmed. But if you consider the 24/7 virtual doctor care they have on site, the hospice and the 5 star restaurant type food that's served, the diverse daily activities and much more that is packaged into the bill it definitely over weighs the doubt of the good quality of life being kept for the resident.

My great grandfather became a resident of this facility in 2009, after diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He's 82, now, and he tells me everyday I visit about how much he enjoys living here. This place is one of the best assisted living communities in California. It's conveniently located in the beautiful foothills of the Santa Monica Mts. How cool is that? They have wonderful programs, great staff members, and they even have a full-time registered nurse working here. Not to mention, pet-friendly! Which is great because he owns a cat that may as well be as old as himself. I trust Silverado Senior Living to care for my great grandfather, and I think you can too.
